WINAMP ICON PACK THREAD
I want to show you closer very nice Winamp functionality - custom icons for extensions associated with Winamp.
This functionality is brought to you thanks to 'Jump to File Extra' plugin (JTFE) by DrO, that is a part of official Winamp distribution.
You can customise the icons, which are shown for files, which are associated with Winamp. To get it working, you must have installed Winamp v5.58 or higher with JTFE v1.1 plugin.

You can change installed icon library (or set it), using Winamp preferences. To change/select the default icon library, open Winamp
preferences (Ctrl + P), navigate to 'Jump to File' > 'Extras' page and use dropdown list to choose another icon library.



The "Enable File Types prefs page additions" option should be checkmarked (icon pack installation enables it). Additionally you have to move the 'File Icon' & 'Playlist Icon' sliders to bottom in "Preferences -> File Types". The currently used icon library, which allows custom icons for supported file extensions can be previewed on this preference page. You can open any folder in Windows containing Winamp-associated filetypes and see the icon(s) change in real-time.

Since it's a bit tricky to enable icon packs with all the settings, a lot of users will be happy to read such documentation with a bunch of pictures.

not that i'm aware of as only cusors allow for animation support and Exploer/the shell will only support icon files to my knowledge.

I know it tooks much time to create an icon pack, but I am sure someone of you will do this and show this to us.

Quick note: When I did an "install on top" of Winamp v5.6, it did not keep my icon choices.

Before the update, I had the "Llama Grey" icons selected. Updated Winamp and saw different icons for all my MP3s, etc. Looked into preferences, it still showed "Llama Grey" as selected. I wiggled the choice of icons to "Llama Green", then back to "Llama Grey" and as I pressed "Close", all my icons came back.

@Pawel: Extra info... Win Vista PC used here. Let me know if more details required. All icons fine now I have toggled the selection within preferences.

the Winamp installer when it is run will reset the associations (if set during the install stage) back to what it knows as being it's valid settings. as the jtfe plug-in is using some tricks to override this behaviour, it sadly doesn't know about the setup stage and isn't really able to do anything about it.

however i had thought jtfe would try to rebuild the icons when Winamp properly starts (am wondering if that is what is leading to some of the UAC on start-up prompts) but until i get a new psu for the dev box i build jtfe on i'm somewhat clueless as to what is going on (has been some months since i implemented it).

I cannot remember 100% of the exact details of what I did during installation. Everything worked well, so I didn't pay attention. Just noticed the change of MP3 icon for a file on my desktop.

MP3 icon had changed to a Greyish "Play" symbol. A Triangle and a Bar. Odd thing is, I now can't locate which icon pack that was in. Or did it come from the KLite Mega Codec Pack? (Generally I aim Winamp at Audio, KLite\Media Player Classic at Video)

Noticeably - the JTFE plug-in page did show that the "Grey Llama" pack was the one I had last used as it was showing it as the selected option. Once I selected something else, and then reselected "Grey Llama" all my icons were corrected.

the plug-in basically keeps a record of the last pack which was selected to use which accounts for the prefs page being correct. i really had thought that it would do a required update as needed but until i can try things out with code i'm not 100% sure at the moment (haven't seen it happen though i've allowed Winamp tp maintain associations and due to some things i have to use, i've also disabled UAC so i never get the prompt).

Pawel old buddy old pal , any chance you could update your icon packs to have a different 16x16 icon for playlist files than for audio files? It's the one thing I sorely miss when I use them, as it's difficult to tell them apart from the rest of the files in a directory in details view. Run into a problem regarding the icons.
I deleted winamp.ini to reset the settings and now I lost the icons and changing have no effect.

Basically I'm stuck with the default icons after resetting the settings.

Just reinstalled Winamp and the icons still don't work.

What have you done to re-enable the icon icon pack?

1. Winamp preferences
2. General Preferences > Jump to File > Extras (double click on Jump to File to expand the branch, if needed)
3. checkmark "Enable 'File Type' preferences page additions" > select icon pack of choice
4. General Preferences > File Types > drag the icon sliders all the way down

It may take a restart of Windows for changes to fully take effect.

Looks like I wasn't careful enough.

Unfortunately not... (they were all black , with winamp logo + extenions diversification...)

I have checked all of these icon libraries in this thread... Can not find set I am looking for...
As I remember I had this icons when this possibility was first introduced in winamp... As I remeber it was 5.87x ver.... Are there any other icon libraries in 'standard' winamp installation ? in Essential Pack.. ? :/

It is created by Roman Shershnev (good job, men :P), and thanks to Viper we have it.

Tried a few different icon packs. All the audio filetypes show the correct format icon, but I'm not seeing anything for the different playlists even though I see those in the icon library files.. renamed m3u to pls to m3u8 to asx, all the same generic filetype icon. Am I doing something wrong?

all playlists only use the generic playlist icon. Using individual playlist icons from the icon packs would require massive changes in winamp.exe and in JTFE. It hopefully will come someday.

Oh. weird. because they already have icons in the packs for them.. though i see m3u8 is typoed as m38u in Pawel's packs.. so they're just there in advance for the time when winamp/jtfe gains that functionality? cool.

something like that. in requires changes in jtfe, winamp.exe, elevator.exe, elevatorps.dll and also in the installer/uninstaller (from what i remember) to cope with making playlists show up as individual types.

Not weird, when we talked internal about the structure of the file, we decided to support nearly all possible extension. So you could say, that the library design is 'future safe', even if some things in the library cannot be loaded yet (different playlist files, usf or psf files).

It was the best solution, because the library files don't need any update, only some plugins do.
