Artwork for selected song
It's simple to view artwork for the song playing, but is it possible to display artwork for the selected song? Both itunes and Mediamonkey have this option, but I haven't seen it in Winamp. I essentially want the "simple" view and display artwork for the selected song when scrolling. I would settle for being able to choose between selected song or song that is playing. Ideally, you could show both. The attached picture shows my ideal setup - song being played is shown on top window, while selected song is displayed in lower left corner. My picture shows the equalizer in top view too, but this doesn't look possible either (both file info and equilizer at same time).
Is it me or is it Winamp? Hopefully the former. |

have you tried a three pane view? i don't think you can do art otherwise.

the plug-in in this thiread -> http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....09#post2706809 will obtain something like that with an embedded mode into the media library like you image in the next release of the plug-in.
however i'm now thinking that is not going to be suitable for you as it will only show the album art for the currently selected item in the playlist editor as there is no way for a plug-in to get the currently selected item(s) from a media library view as seems to be how you're trying to work. something like that would require a complete change to every media library plug-in ever created to be able to provide a reference of the selected item (which would be tricky in a multi-pane view). -daz |

personally i'm rather dubious about skin specific features but that's just me since it deprives classic skin and other modern skin users from having the feature easily *shrugs*
either way, it sounds like astrowags wants it to work from the selected item in the media library view which both the plug-in (which now is available with the embed option) and the widget cannot do that and only from the selection in the playlist editor. -daz |

It looks like the widget link is broken, so I can’t comment on that. I’ve played around with various pane views, but nothing quite fits. I really like the flexibility of Winamp (and ability to play all types of files), but I also want a simple interface with integration of artwork. It’s 95% there – having the ability to toggle artwork between song playing and song selected would make me a Winamp convert!

i use the bento skin, i have 3 panes. i have albumartist in the top left, album art, large icon in the top right, and the tracks in the bottom pane. the toggle art button works in this view. i guess i don't understand why that wouldn't work for you.

Mynameisnobody – Your link took me to this link: http://stashbox.org/106046/cpro-widg...0Mini-1.01.exe. When I click here, I get file not found. But DrO’s comment implies it won’t give me what I want anyway.
MrSinatra – I prefer the sorting ability that comes with the Simple view. You can list the artist name, album name, track title, etc in a single pane. It seems this ability is lost once you go to multi-pane view. But please tell me if I’m wrong! I want the file organization of Simple view with the ability to show artwork of selected song or song that is playing. Thanks |

panes are resizeable, so you can decide how much space to give each. how would you add art to simple view anyway? same art for an album next to each song? also, use "smartviews" and you can switch back and forth between art/simple/whatever in a click. So it sounds like your third pane can sort like “simple view”. I guess I’m missing how to configure this. Looking back to your previous comment, you select “AlbumArtist”, “AlbumArt”, and “Tracks” for your three panes. I don’t see the option for “Tracks” when I am setting up my panes. After selection of panes (artist, album, and art for instance), I can configure any pane to add “tracks”, but it only gives me the number of tracks associated with the album and/or artist. If you don’t mind, try to explain one more time…
I may have found a bigger stumbling block. It doesn’t look like Winamp supports ID3V2 tags for aif or wav files. I know there’s a way to work around it, but I really like keeping my music and art in a single file. |

and just follow along with me here...do you know how to make a "smartview?" i assume you do or can google that. so just add a smartview, and in the choices for setting it up, pick advanced mode, and then "two" at the bottom. the "two" refers to the top two panes. then under that, from the dropdowns, pick "albumartist" and "album art" and thats it. check "hide extra info" then give the view a name, and close it. then click on the new view in the normal winamp, and you're almost there. from here you can configure the view more by using the buttons to the immediate left of the "search" box. i put my art in "icon" view, large, small, whatever. you can also toggle art on or off. you can resize the panes, and you can control the tracks shown in the bottom pane by clicking, or not clicking, on the album art, as well as the albumartist list. i know nothing about aif files. as far as i know, wav does not support id3 tags, but only very very basic wav tags and most apps in turn don't even support those. you shouldn't use wav anyway... use FLAC, which is lossless, free, results in smaller file sizes, and supports proper tagging. get the free FLAC frontend at sourceforge, and play with it, it'll batch convert your wavs. don't insert id3 tags into your wav, but rather use native FLAC (ogg vorbis) tags. u can put the art in each file, or you can put one art file in each album folder, Folder.jpg PENN STATE Radio or http://www.LION-Radio.org/ -- BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks Wish #1 = Multiple Column Sorting Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing |

MrSinatra, I played around with Smart View before, and again using your detailed description. It’s close, but not really what I’m after. In your layout, select “All” under Album Artist. Then your lower pane shows your entire library (which is what I want). This allows sorting your columns by artist, album, title, etc (which is what I want). If you highlight a row in this third pane, my desire is to display the associated artwork. But the artwork pane is just another way to display the same info as the third pane (based on the first pane selection). Winamp allows a lot of configuration, but I guess it’s not quite what I want. Thanks for your patience in helping me and the info on FLAC – something to consider.

you COULD highlight a track in the bottom pane, and then alt+3 and click the artwork tab. once clicked, the artwork tab will always be there when you alt+3 (view file info). why do you need to see art from there though? just use the top right pane...? "don't insert id3 tags into your FLAC," you can't insert id3 tags into a wav anyway, but you can into a FLAC. however you SHOUDN'T put id3s into FLAC files. mp3tag.de is a good tag editor. "why do you need to see art from there though?"
...preference "you can't insert id3 tags into a wav" ...try Tag&Rename for wave, aif, FLAC, etc... |

you could also play the file and extend the playlist window and the art would show in the file info window and bottom of the playlist window.

wavs support VERY limited tagging, and not id3. the only app i've ever used that tags wavs properly (in a limited fashion) is Audacity. i use mp3tag.
