Karzai's bags of cash a conundrum for the U.S.

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai shrugged off accusations on Monday that his chief of staff, Umar Daudzai, received "bags of money" from Iran.

"Let's not make this an issue,"

Oh brother. The Iranians deny this. Karzai says the US gives him bags of cash too.

man on (his name has gone from my mind),he made a point of how would american's
react if there government representatives took large bags of cash in the same way ?

This made me laugh, lobbyist's anyone ?

I am no fan of the private security forces the U.S uses.
However this tell's me everything I need to know about Karzai.

Quote:
During an often hostile news conference, Mr. Karzai also accused the United
States of financing the “killing” of Afghans by paying private security
contractors to guard construction projects and convoys in Afghanistan. He has
declined to postpone a December deadline he set for ending the use of private
security forces despite urgent pleas from Western organizations, including
development organizations, that need protection here.
Mr Karzai want's more bags of cash from the U.S to pay for his own security forces then.
This man reminds me of a gangster.

And it's also true that private security forces have run amok in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
There have been incidents, but I wouldn't call it run "amok". If I were there, I'd want someone holding a machine gun looking after me. What ran amok is Afghanistan. It didn't have very far to run.

Yep.

That's because he is a gangster. So what? It would be impossible to find someone to deal with in Afghanistan that wasn't.

For example, the venal elections he's overseen are some additional reasons why he shouldn't remain the president of his country.
Do you have a better option?

Aquarius, like most liberals, you can only tell us what shouldn't happen, not how to fix it. Karzai is crooked as a Bill Clinton 3 dollar bill. So get rid of Karzai, then what? The Iranians got rid of the evil, US backed Shah and then proceeded to murder 50,000 people. Compared to the Ayatollah, the Shah was a great guy. Compared to Lenin, the Czar was a great guy.

Be careful what you wish for, you might get it.

Since you make such generalised claims about Afghan's, I am sure you
will be able to provide evidence ?
Forming an opinion about an entire population without evidence
is a slippery slope.

Hard work and patient yes, impossible no.
Don't prop up corrupt warlords, bypass them and go to the people.
And yes I understand the tribal complexities that would hamper
this process.
