BUG: winamp disregarding other apps ratings unless first scanned into ML

title says it all. the center pane in winamp won't show a [playing] file is rated UNLESS it is first scanned into the ML.

i'm not sure if it would work on a file [previously] rated by [another] winamp, but not scanned into the current winamp ML. but it def does not work on files rated by other apps.

once scanned into the ML, the center pane then shows it.

when saving of ratings was done, it was stated that unless the file(s) are in the library then ratings are generally not going to work as the library is what is doing the rating actions as has been the case going all the way back to when ratings support was added (though no one has really experienced an issue as it generally seems people rating files also use the ml).

it probably should at least read or do something if there is no ml present or the file is not in the ml but i don't know anyone with the time currently to look into changing this lookup behaviour.

i don't recall that but i completely believe you. and to me, this is a small issue/bug, b/c i love the ML and use it all the time, so i rarely have a problem. my main goal, as is usually the case, was simply to document the issue.

however, as the link shows, other users are being caught unaware by it, and even retroman didn't know about it and was posting incorrectly over at the mp3tag forums that winamp will ONLY read POPM frames IF winamp created the rating. i set the record straight, but i'm sure others, esp those who don't install the ML, have the same misconceptions.

again, small issue, i agree. but even i had to do some thinking and testing to really nail down what all was actually happening.

this is seemingly fixed in 5.7

files are now parsed regardless.
