Ignorance, thy name be bethesda softworks
currently looking over the heap of paperwork regarding the "scrolls lawsuit" that was sent to notch by bethesda, he's posted a magnet link of it on his twitter, i don't read legalese but.... there's not much in here honestly as surprising as that is, nearly finished with the .pdfs and i've yet to see a single thing at all that even seems to indicate they ever even tried to copyright "scrolls" instead of "the elder scrolls".
this should be a laugh when they get to court. i guess bethesda is a lot more desperate and fearful of mojang than anyone thought, i almost pity them, but then i remember the bugs in fallout new vegas that they never patched. run em through mojang!

finished what i could bare to read through and it looks like the basis of bethesda's suit is that the two logo's/names could be confused.
strange that they'd sued to contest the word "scrolls" though, especially by itself in "the elder scrolls" elder holds the most significance by far because it's the only adjective in the phrase, the is nothing a more than a prefix the way it's used and scrolls is a common noun. the whole suit reeks of desperation, but then again, every lawsuit does. I hate everyone, so you don't have to.

If you owned the trademark, you'd do the same thing. "Scrolls" looks like a pretty clear trademark infringement. Mojang should just change the name and not waste court time. There is no "big guy, little guy" struggle here. It's just a company with a registered trademark defending it.
Global Movies and TV God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to hide the bodies of people who pissed me off. |

do you really think so?
i've really never heard anyone refer to any of the elder scrolls game as anything besides "morrowind" "oblivion" "skyrim" most people don't even say "the elder scrolls" when they mention this series. also, they don't own the trademark in question, only to the phrase as a whole, the single word as a name isn't a trademark of theirs.
