Winamp reading weird id3 tag

I've run into this many times; maybe someone can help. Basically, Winamp is reading tag data that does not appear in the File Info window in either id3v1 or id3v2. Track titles and other info will be different than what I insert using Tag&Rename. Even that program doesn't see these weird tags.

So there's tag data somewhere in the file that Winamp is reading for the display and playlist purposes, but it can't access it for editing purposes. There's no way to remove or correct this data.

Anyone else seen this?

no. have you tried using mp3tag?

i assume these are mp3 files? perhaps they have ape or lyrics tags, or something else in them?

what exactly are you seeing?

*unless perhaps you haven't turned off the "guessing" logic in winamp? its the first thing i do. there's two places in watch folders you need to tell winamp not to "guess" at metadata and another place where you tell it not to use artist as albumartist. i believe all that guessing crap should be off by default.
