The Secret Service is investigating after Ted Nugent said at a NRA meeting that he would be "dead or in jail" if Obama is re-elected. Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary, said: "We are aware of the incident and we are conducting appropriate follow-up."

The numbers are simple. Americans use guns 2 million times a year to protect themselves. Gun's used for self defense outnumber guns used to commit a crime by 60 to 1. Homicides by firearms are 90% drug or gang related. That's about 9000 a year in total. 200,000 women repel a sexual assault with a gun every year.

Crime has gone down since concealed carry legislation was enacted in the 90's.

There are spectacular consequences to having a lot of guns in the country, but those are statistical insignificant.

Guns are primarily a gang problem. It seems like most citizens are pretty responsible about using their guns. A lot of people around here carry. The only time you ever hear about anybody getting shot is gang punks shooting each other.

That's like once a year or something. Who cares?

You are more likely to be killed by lightning than a gun, unless you are hangin with the wrong people. And if you don't try to jack anybody, it's not very likely that you'll get shot by your average Joe with a gun permit.

I don't mind them giving him a hard time. He's an asshole that thinks he's above the law, he knows better, and is asking for it. I just hope we're not wasting tax dollars on it. They ought to take enough from him to pay for their investigations and then a little extra as a tip.

I'm a gun owner, but too lazy (and not scared enough) to carry. The guns are mostly just for hunting, but they're handy if I ever need them for something else while home - not just protection from "bad guys"; the shotgun gets rid of big hornet nests in a hurry. Most people around here do carry pistols though; perhaps I'm too naive or maybe I don't feel like I have anything on me or anything about me that makes someone want to shoot.

I don't think guns are a true problem. Gun problems are effects, not causes. I could go on with explanations, but really, that last sentence says it all. I believe problems are better solved when one focuses on causes rather than effects.

If anything talking to Nugent makes Nugent more important. He'll get redneck bubba cred.


The only thing crazier than Nugent is liberals. Every number says guns used properly far outnumber ones used in crime.

But the cops will protect us? That's about a false sense of security! In 5 minutes, when the cops get there, they'll be just in time to scrape what is left of you off the sidewalk.

Yeah, there are murders... sometimes kids crack up and shoot up a schoolyard... gangsters shoot each other a lot. Sometimes some dumb ass thing happens like kids shooting themselves. Or you get a neighborhood argument that turns bad.

But the truth is that most people are responsible gun owners. We got a couple million times a year having a gun was a good thing, and a few thousand where it worked out badly.

There is a theme here. If you aren't a douche bag, people will shoot you about 95% less often.

Most of the people that get shot in the US asked for it. They were gang members, or muggers or they simply busted in the wrong house.

It's about 60:1

I don't carry a gun either, but I want the right to.
