been 4hrs of reading and testing.... need help now.

I used shoutcast before the major changes... since then i used another streaming service.. but it didn't post song information.. I would really like to get shoutcast working again.

System: Windows XP, winamp, shoutcast dsp 2.2.3
Problem. sc-serv.exe keeps saying 'connection denied, bad password' when I try yo connect with the dsp.
I been through everything over 10x and been reading threads for 3 hrs. I can't figure out whats wrong.
I purchased the mp3 encoder and followed tutorials on youtube from thinktink to the letter.

I'n 4 hrs it worked once.... I restarted and hasn't worked since. Is there a cache somwhere I have to clear out?

Any Help would be greatly appreciated...

are you just trying to do Source DSP to (i assume) the v2 DNAS?

as you've mentioned the 'mp3 encoder' but don't otherwise mention sc_trans or Transcoder i.e. did you just get the mp3 encoding license or Transcoder as well? since if you're just going to use the Source DSP then that was not needed.

otherwise, you'll need to provide the contents of your DNAS configuration file (removing any authhash entries) and if you are using the Transcoder, the configuration file for it (removing the mp3 unlock code).

Yea I was using the v2 DNAS and I did download the transcoder too. maybe that's the problem... I maybe using everything but don't have to.

I'm a novice and not quite sure what you are saying but I'll try a few things that I 'think' you are saying.

Thanks for your prompt response daz!

DNAS configuration file
;Made with the SHOUTcast 2 Configuration Builder

password=rosexxxxxx
adminpassword=rosexxxxxx
requirestreamconfigs=1
logfile=C:\Program Files\SHOUTcast\sc_serv.log
w3clog=C:\Program Files\SHOUTcast\sc_w3c.log
banfile=C:\Program Files\SHOUTcast\sc_serv.ban
ripfile=C:\Program Files\SHOUTcast\sc_serv.rip

streamid=1
streammaxuser=32
streampassword=rosexxxxxx
streamadminpassword=rosexxxxxx

;Transcoder configuration file
;Made with the SHOUTcast 2 Configuration Builder

streamtitle=SoulScape
streamurl=http://www.331group.com/
genre=Misc
inheritconfig=C:\Program Files\SHOUTcast\sc_serv.conf
unlockkeyname=Wxxxxxxxxxxx
unlockkeycode=Txxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
logfile=C:\Program Files\SHOUTcast\sc_trans.log
public=1
playlistfile=C:\Program Files\SHOUTcast\playlist.lst
shuffle=0

encoder=mp3

*** then i open sc_serv... press '1' , press play on winamp, then connect on the dsp and i get connection denied, bad password...
I hope thats enough info.
I also have the correct ip address in the shoutcast builder and the dsp along with the name and passwords.

if you're trying to do Source DSP -> DNAS (as i think is the case) then you need to use the password from 'streampassword' from the DNAS config file and put that in the Source DSP's password field. also ensure that the Source DSP is set in v2 (non-legacy mode) and that the 'stream id' is set as 1.

it doesn't sound like you're making any use of the Transcoder which is likely to fail to connect to the DNAS though if trying to do Source DSP -> Transcoder -> DNAS then the Transcoder config you've got is not going to allow that to work.

thanks daz. I abandoned the transcoder (don't know what to do with it anyways).... just used the dsp>serv and it connected!

hate to sound like a real noob... but I cannot find the fields in the config files to change the max users or dnas login to get an auth hash. no matter what user name and pass... i can't get logged in.
I looked in the sc_serv2.txt and the dsp config... changed fields I thougt would let me in. Didnt work tho. I used the usernme: admin... and a wealth of passwords.. nothing worked. I must not be looking in the right files.

I cant seem to find a dnas_config.txt file.

In the meantime I'll try to use the config builder again...

for maxusers you'd need to add maxusers=xxx or enter it in the configbuilder if you're using that -the default is 32 and if not entered into the config file then that is what is used as the example configs and the default behaviour of the config builder is to only output what is actually needed in the config files and not dumping every option in there like the v1 did and counted as documentation though that obviously is not helpful in some scenarios.

to login you'd need to enter the password from 'adminpassword' with the user as 'admin' to log in to the /admin.cgi?sid=0 page.

Daz thanks for all your help....

3 things...
1. for some reason the 'download' buttons stopped working in the config builder. (using firefox)

2. as for the password I found it and edited manually in the conf files. I am able to log in dnas server now.... but I don't get an authhash link to register.

3. looking thru the default conf files I dont see where maxusers are. is that a line I have to add?

Since the download buttons stopped working I started editing manually...

thanks again...

1) they don't work in the local version of the config builder - is down to flash policies. you just have to manually copy and paste the contents into the files as applicable.

2) make sure you're just going to <serveraddress>/admin.cgi or <serveraddress>/admin.cgi?sid=0

3) you have to manually add it to the config file.

once again.. thanks for all your help... looks like things are working properly now.... guess i gotta wait 15 min or so to see if it gets listed in the shoutcast directory.

Just one last issue. I added that streammax line to the sc_serv_basic.conf file... but when I goto the dnas screen it still says 32. Am I not adding it correctly? or not in the right place?

; now we will specify the details of the stream we're going
; to serve which can be done as follows
streamid=1
streampath=/test.aac
streammaxuser=45

doesn't look like it's working as i'm not seeing anything active against what i believe is your authhash (assuming you're using 'SoulScape' as the station name) - make sure there's no YP related errors in the log and that the stream summary pages don't show something like 'no YP connection'.

the config entry is fine but is sc_serv_basic.conf the config file you are using to run the DNAS with? also if you're not running an aac+ stream, remove streampath=/test.aac from the config file.

Yea SoulScape is me and yes I choose the basic.conf when I start the server.
Should I pick public.conf?... I changed the public to 'always' in the basic.conf file
as for the YP. I dont get an error i get msg:[YP2] Connecting to yp.shoutcast.com.

no 'successful connection message'.. but no error either.

i can see it in the backend reports now, most likely the public option wasn't checked in the Source DSP as the default behaviour is to follow what the source says to do. so i'd leave the config alone now but make sure to have a backup of it somewhere safe.

[edit]
just remembered, you need to use maxuser=45 instead of streammaxuser as maxuser controls the upper limit for all streams so is being limited by maxuser defaulting to 32. you can edit the config file and on the server admin summary page use the reload configuration option to update it to the new value without having to restart the DNAS (and saves being de-listed in the process).

I just changed and using the serv_public now. and getting the same thing..
When it initially starts it says 'it should now be listed in the SHOUTcast Radio Directory
then next line is the connecting message followed by ip and song information
It sits at the 'connecting to yp.shoutcast.com' till the next song is played... then goes back to that line.

heres the config:
; NOTE: for any relative paths specified are relative to
; sc_serv and not to where the conf file is being stored

; we use the sc_serv_basic.conf configuration file as the
; base configuration to work from for a public server
include=sc_serv_basic.conf

; due to the way configuration files work we can replace an
; existing value like 'publicserver' with a newer value so
; the following will force any sources to be public which
; allows us to then connect and be listed on the YP
publicserver=always

; as we are going to connect to the YP then we need to fill
; in the required options so we can authenticate to the YP2
; see sc_serv.txt - section 3.0 for details on getting this
;
; make sure that you completely replace the string
; <enter_your_auth_key_here> with the authorisation key you
; obtained when registering the stream for the SHOUTcast YP
; e.g. if you auth hash key is 12345 then the line would be
; streamauthhash=12345
streamauthhash=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
streamid=1
streammaxuser=45

it will connect to the YP on song changes as that's how it notifies the system of the new title for display on the site for the station.

change streammaxuser=45 to maxuser=45

hopefully this the last time I'll have to bother ya
I see my station listed and song data is displayed.... but no audio.

im getting a 'socket error while waiting to send data. connection reset by peer' message.
I assume thats my audio problem.

My PC firewall is off and set my router that this specific pc is fully exposed to the internet so I'm not sure what the socket error is.

Current conf file:
; NOTE: for any relative paths specified are relative to
; sc_serv and not to where the conf file is being stored

; here we will setup where the log and other related files
; will be stored. make sure that these folders exist else
; sc_serv will throw an error and will close itself down.
; we will make the logs save to the sc_serv2 directory
logfile=logs\sc_serv.log
w3clog=logs\sc_w3c.log
banfile=control\sc_serv.ban
ripfile=control\sc_serv.rip

; for testing we will make the server only work locally
; (i.e. localhost / 127.0.0.1) though if this is left out
; or set to publicserver=always then we attempt to make a
; connection to the YP for listing - do not forget to add
; in a 'streamauthhash' value for any public streams made
publicserver=always

; if you're wanting to use a different port to use for any
; connections then you can use this option e.g. to use 80
; otherwise port 8000 is used as the default to listen on.
;portbase=80

; password used by sc_trans or the Winamp dsp plug-in
; NOTE: remember to change this to something else
password=testing

; password used for accessing the administation pages
; NOTE: remember to change this to something else
adminpassword=xxxxxxxxxx

; now we will specify the details of the stream we're going
; to serve which can be done as follows
streamid=1
maxuser=45

; or

; it can be done like this which is how it needs to be done
; if you are going to provide multiple streams from sc_serv
;streamid_1=1
;streampath_1=/test.aac
;streamid_2=2
;streampath_2=/test2.aac
streamauthhash_1=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

i've just connected and am able to hear the stream. without the log message in context it could just be a normal client disconnect or it could be another issue - there's a lot of messages which are out in the current build which were only ever intended for debugging and in most cases can cause more confusion.

also what player are you trying to use to play it back with and is it on the same machine as the DNAS? as some routers do not handle loopback too well.

Im trying to listen on the shoutcast web page... with other pc's in my house. None seem to work but I can hear other stations... My router must not be allowing me to listen on the same network.

Thanks for all your help daz!

not sure then as i've just tried the site player and that's able to play it ok on my side.

i know it doesn't like things when the track changes but that's a noted issue with the site player and the current build of the v2 DNAS so maybe that is causing part of the issue for you.
