download artwork: where's the button?

hi

I wanted to use the download artwork function. Thus I right-clicked on the files I wanted to edit > view file info (alt+3), but under the Artwork menu, the button "download artwork" has disappeared. Is there any way I can download artwork?

Hi,

For the foreseeable future you will have to use a 3rd party app. WA's contract with the vender they were using came to an end and a new contract or supplier has not been acquired yet.

i rip CDs with EAC which has a great artwork grabbing system. i mainly just grab album art from google images when the few things i DL don't have art.

Google Images, Amazon, Wikipedia are all good artwork sources.

Amazon does put a silly white boarder around the art.
Google Images is handy as the search lets you filter by sizes.

A trick I use is to just copy and paste through the clipboard. Once you have located your chosen image in a web browser, just RIGHT CLICK and select "Copy" or "Copy Image". Now swap over to Winamp and hit the PASTE ARTWORK button form next to where you used to press the FIND ARTWORK button.

This does mess with the image quality a little bit, but nothing to worry about (or even visible).

i just drag n drop the image directly from the IE window to the album folder, (after "open folder" is done in winamp). then i copy the image and rename it to Folder.jpg

this is best for me b/c i like to have one backup of every Folder.jpg file.

If you use the 'Paste Artwork' button the image is renamed to what is in the file's album tag. If the file's album tag is empty, the image is renamed to "cover". The extension used (jpg, bmp, etc) matches the image file type in either case.

thats fine, but thats no good for me. i don't want the image messed with quality wise first of all, and secondly i want Folder.jpgs and then a copy with any/whatever unique name.

Folder.jpg is what works with windows explorer, and the copy is just in case anything overwrites that common filename, be it WMP, a virus, etc...

besides, if you edit the album tag later, the image no longer works.

All true. If you edit the album tag later, you would also need to edit the image name. Just was letting the OP know how things work. Personally, I embed my artwork, so none of the options discussed by you and Batter Pudding would work for me.
