is there a way to get rid of the 48/22 boxes above the vol/balance controls?

A small piece of masking tape on your monitor works really well.

The boxes which show the khz and kbps.
How do i get rid of them?

Paint over em on your main.bmp, or there may be more to it than that.
and those 2 boxes? They are called the kbps and khz windows.

I don't know of any way to get rid of them....they are like the spot where the song title scrolls along the top, they are just there. You can 'camouflage' them like Chev suggested, but the numbers will still pop up when you turn Winamp on.
