FileNavigator=Getting Banners

FileNavigator is an easy way to find media files on Open-Nap networks. It not only allows the sharing of multiple filetypes, but compensates Server Operators through a small, unobtrusive, advertising banner at the bottom of the client.

already replaced napster about a month ago with this.

anyway to search all nap inc. servers and most open nap servers add these to the server list: server.napster.com:8875 redirect on, ~OpenNap~ 207.195.111.2:8888 redirect off, ~MyNapster~ 206.139.152.109:8888 redirect off, ~DJ Nap~ 213.254.1.80:8888 redirect off, ~NakedFeet~ 24.177.148.100:8888 redirect off, ~Nap inc.1~ 208.184.216.26:8888 redirect off, ~Nap inc.2~ server2.napster.com:8875 redirect on. also, might wanna use different usernames for the nap inc. servers.

Hmm... Is this the public spam forum cause this is quite the odd message. Why the link to bestdownload and not napster.com anyways?

FileNavigator looks strangely similar to MyNapster (Same Prog? Creators?)

P.S;
You would link to some other mirror (bestdownload) because the napster servers would probably be hammered and slow. So you go somewhere else to get it so you can download alot faster.

The good news is that beta 7 still works although there is a beta 8. Half-Life makers need to learn that some people want the old versions and don't want to download the new 82.3 meg DL

OK, just downloaded the new Napster software and thought I'd post a couple of comments:

- I exported the entire contents of my registry before and after the install, and ran Windiff on the resulting files. These were apparently 'different in blanks only'. What this means is that the patch to change Napster user names on your PC will still work with Beta 8 - one of my main concerns.

- So what's new in this version? Not a lot, by the looks of it. In terms of interface:

-- Inbound and outbound counts are separate (I think that's new)

-- There's a new 'Connecting' status before a connection is established and the download begins.

-- The Help menu is fleshed out with some new web links.

-- There's a new 'Browse files' option on the context menus, which allows you to view the files on a user's PC without adding them to your hotlist.

There doesn't appear to be a noticeable difference in speed or reliability of transfers, but bear in mind I haven't been using it long enough to be certain.

I think that's about it for now...

Jack.

Jack-
Beta 7 had "Concurrent Uploads:0 Concurrent Downloads:0" at bottom. Is that what you meant?

Beta 7 says "Getting Info" - Beta 8 says "Connecting"

Now, here are the differences i found. if i am wrong, please let me know.

- when selecting multiple files to download from one person, only fist one is actually put into the transfer window.

- dispite repeated attempts to change the destination of my downloads (to a different HD than install), the options panel always reverts back to the "My Files" folder under the Napster install folder. However, dispite this setting, all MP3s transfered went to my root of the install drive (C:/)

i went back to beta 7

I just came back to this forum to post something about the download destination - I was wondering if anybody else was having this problem. For some reason, the download destination cannot be changed from the default, and despite this default setting it dumps all downloads in the root of the drive on which Napster is installed.

I haven't had the problem with downloading multiple stuff from the same person from the Search tab - is this a problem with the Hotlist?

You're right about 'Connecting' - it's simply a change of text. As for the upload/download count they now have separate status bars rather than being displayed at the bottom of the screen. More space used, same information.

So, overall, stick with Beta 7. Hopefully Napster will issue a patch to address these issues...

Anybody else got any feedback regarding the new version? I know this isn't WinAmp related, but this is 'General Discussions'.

Jack.

yes both programs are made by the same person, but MyNapster has a lot of extra useless crap, that really has nothing to do with the purpose of the program.

yes, Hotlist. I did not have any MP3s to search for today. I just installed Beta 8 to give it a run so I only tried only the Hotlist not the Search.

Why must we uninstall the old versions of Napster? I just noticed it at the bottom of the download screen.

Dammit!!!

I downloaded BETA 8, only to have it not allow me to switch the download folder, then decided to re-install BETA 7, ahich promptly failed to decompress napster.exe, causing me to revert to BETA 6 and leaving me worse off than before!

I tried to change the download folder too, and it wouldn't work.
I even deleted the "My Files" folder and it still wouldn't work!
I finally just gave up, and I'll worry about it when I need it.

Just like I always say...

I don't find the need to download Napster again, after all Beta 6 is just peachy for me, I don't need all that extraneous crap. As long as it works, I'm all smiles

And FileNavigator looks interesting, will give it a try.
