Info about the mp3 format

I'm looking for some information about the mp3 format, how it works and etc.

Is there any open-source player where I could see how this thing works? (pref. in C++)

This is all I've been able to find. if you find anything else, can ya tell me? I'd love to find more out too, I've read every book I can get my hands on. I'm not about to go buy the ISO shiznit.

Perhaps you want to have a look at the code from mpg123 (mpg123.org) and lame (www.sulaco.org/mp3/).
