My wife has a stand alone PC that is not connected to the Internet.
Specs: 75 MHx Pentium I 56 Mb RAM I had made an M3u Playlist that she liked. I downloaded WinAmp and wrote it to a floppy. I then transferred the playlist to an audio CD. WinAmp seemed to setup on her PC just fine with no reported errors. It opens with no problems. However, when I try to play the playlist, the songs appear to load giving title and run time, but they don't play. I have tried loading a single song to no avail. At first I thought it might be a sound problem...that the song was really playing but just not being heard. However, there isn't even a slide bar to indicate the song is playing at all. Any idea what the problem might be? Brian |

Re: Twilight's Response
Maybe I worded my problem wrong or I don't understand what I'm doing (which is highly likely!)
When I save an MP3 file to my hard drive it is saved in M3U format (I have no choice...that is the only option available). The files resides on my hard drive as 1Kb Winamp playlist files. These are the files I transferred to the hard drive on my wife's PC. Are you sayiong thse are not "real" music files? If not, where are the files I need to transfer? This is all I have Thanks...Brian |

OK Let's start all over again
![]() A m3u file is a Playlist file. A playlist is simply a collection of file references. The goal of a playlist is just to "tell" winamp what to play. Which means that the playlist doesn't contain the actual files If you like you can open a m3u file in Notepad and see how it is done. What I don't understand is when you say that you save your files in m3u. Aren't the mp3s you're playing on your hard drive ? |

Thanks for being patient with this dummy!!
Okay...here we go. I downloaded a bunch of Oldies from Napster and they appear in my Napster Library as MP3 files. However, when I save them to a permanent folder, they transfer as M3U files. For example: I download "Born to be Wild" and save it as an M3U file and thsat's how it shows in Explorer. But, when I load it into WinAmp, it loads as... C:\My Music\MP3\Oldies\Incomplete\Steppen Wolf - Born To Be Wild.mp3 This is the file I transferred to my wife's PC but they don't play. I hope that's a better explanation. If not, I think I'll say ...no, better unsaid. lol |

That's because the Save function in Napster is for saving the playlist of the files you add to Napster's list in the corner. To copy the MP3's themselves, you needn't even open napster itself. Just open My Computer or Windows Explorer, and make it go to your napster songs folder, which is probably C:\Program Files\Napster\Music. Then, use the copy and paste functions to copy files from where they are and paste them to a disk.
There's just one problem though... those songs better be darned short, because MP3's that are at the common bitrate, 128 kilobits per second, take up about 960 kilobytes per minute. The problem here is that diskettes only hold about 1.4 megabytes of data, which would equal about a minute and a half of 128 bitrate music... so if you want to transfer those songs you'll probably have to get a CD burner. |

Yes, it seems like you'll need either a Cd-Burner or a Zip drive
