I don't know about anyone else but I wish there were some better servers out there that would host shoutcast streams. I don't know about anyone else but they all appear to be expensive or non-existent. I wish someone would start up a good cheap service for the rest of us. Does anyone else feel the same???

You might want to begin looking for 'unix hosting' or even a co-locate service (it gets to be pricey) if you think you have a shot at using all their bandwidth. The majority of sites are a bit shakey on any sort of streaming media applications because it uses a lot of bandwidth (unless you run 8kbps! :P). Most sites' policy will say right out if they don't allow it.. others will handle them case by case if you talk with them. I am in the process of searching for 'unix hosting' myself. Some sites I have come across like prhost.com have replied in email that they allow shoutcast. Uk2.net offers Colbalt Raq3 dedicated servers for 25 pounds (about 36 US Dollars). But their setup of 200 pounds deterred myself personally. They do allow casting within the 10GB/month limit ... so it wouldn't be quite a big server.. Those are some of the ones I have come across.
And if you do get either one of those or any others .. I might just have to toss around some names and see if any referral type discounts come along. IBIG - Relax. |
