Winamp 6?

We've been waiting for 2 years on the release of Winamp 6 and it was supposed to be released in 2019... Is there any word on any type of progress?

yeah, hate seeing all the fb links as homepages etc .. burned that acct at least 4 yrs ago. It was making people I'd grown up with lose their minds and that just can't be a good thing. Same with the twttr'r too .. had to go.

It would be something to see anything to hint that some work is at least occasionally ongoing with a new Winamp.!!

Thanks Rel@m, basically the same thing posted on their twitter account.

Given that they said that 5.8 isn't going to be an ongoing project and winamp 6 will basically be just a new program that carries the winamp name, i don't expect much.

I wonder what it will be if it ever is released... probably a glorified webapp for the shoutcast streams and a phone app to stream. Don't see anything regarding desktop development

I already have nothing but bad thoughts about the 'new winamp' given that the site says "This version is not an ongoing project but be sure that we are currently working hard on a future new Winamp." and it's been 13 years since a new version has been legitimately released.

The way I see it is wacup is the future of winamp, whatever the audiovalley releases will be some app that carries the winamp name but no code or unique functionality from the original winamp

Signed up. I also looked at the job postings but didn't see any that fit my bill in The States.

Moving to another country is something that I'd seriously consider that involved Winamp/SHOUTcast.

Yeah, same, of course they have been completely silent and then *bam* "lets update the website with beta signups." Hell, I signed up for the updates mailing list years ago and never got an email.

Is there a publicly-available roadmap for the development of Winamp? There is a site relaunch happening (Great!), but are we going to see Winamp brought into a new market, where it will operate on MacOS, Linux?

Would this make sense to achieve, given the broad spectrum of other players in the market (free and commercial)?

as you know Winamp has always been free to download and i'm sure that as soon as it's released you will be able to download it from www.winamp.com , you can sign up as a beta tester.

Well yes the release will be free I'm sure but Winamp betas in the past did not require signing up AFAIK, they were publicly available for download. That way provides a larger base from which to get feedback but we'll make do regardless. :--)

On https://winampheritage.com/version-history you can find the history of Winamp and in the old days only a few users were beta testers, now anybody can sign up.
The only released beta version as far as i know is the leaked 5.8

I just wrote that... But the difference is that 10 years ago it was real, now you can sign up and never see any new version...

Winamp 5.8 is not a real release (just leaked beta). In fact, there is no Winamp 5.8 (and there were few betas of 5.8).
Latest stable Winamp is 5.666, as you know.

if you look at wikipedia they speak about last release 5.7
never have seen anything with that number......

and i do know that 5.666 was the last stable release
on my computer i run 5.8 as it only plays music and i don't use anything else, on my laptop there is an even older release with a dutch language pack

personally, i install 5.666 then 5.8 over top. works good for me, altho the id3/mp3 bug is still in there causing some scans to crash, along with the issues in my sig.

i would also like to see the ratings overhauled... support half stars, support multiple user ratings for one file, support multiple rating schemes/ranges outside of the de facto standards, support filesystem ratings outside of the metadata, etc.
