Man, what a crappy I've had, laid up in bed with a stinking cold, I've house cleaned both my laptops, sorted all those pesky mp3's into order, watched meaningless sunday afternoon TV and I'm still bored, so what better way to pass another 5 minutes with a pointless thread ...

So here's a thread worthy of Gen discus, cept I never venture there....

Cheer me up guys , show me what colourfull treats adorn your desktop, yes thats right lets have a desktop image thread , dont direct link tho, we don't want this turning into some bandwidth gobbling thread that will drag winamp down, just bung them into your web space and stick a link in here....

Shooooow me please , I'm bored.......

Here's my desktop for starters

Next...............

Man, you are bored! same boat as keeta - no digi or polaroid. Before I opened your link, I thought you were referring to windows desktop images.

Mines pretty plain - comp (pc), printer, TV and Stereo crammed next to one another on this corner desk. Monitor's covered in paper notes I've stickey-tacked to it over time. A picture of me and the GF in a clay frame on top of the monitor, an Abbey Chase Danger Girl action figure right next to that, coffee cup full of colored pencils on the desk, empty Clearly Canadian & Root Beer bottles all about, and of course the usual clutter of paper matter that's conspicuously absent from yours.

Sorry you're feeling down man, get better! Take two hydrocodine and call us in the morning.

...a blatant person.

Here's my desk

http://xerxes3.homestead.com/files/xerxesdesk.jpg

Points of interest:
"Sumofan" Sumo Wrestler Fan
"Red Death" Hand painted Phantom of the Opera Music Box to left of computer screen
"Stone Pipe Ale" - No, it's not what you think; I'm not really one for "the drink" anyway. A film student friend of mine had was shooting a scene in a bar and he had me make a fake beer label for him (can't use trademarks in film unless you shell out mucho dinero) - it's actually
a Hie****n bottle if I remember right. So now it graces my desk

Now is the time for all good Americans to come to the aid of their Country

I don't know assja, I kinda like it. Now I'm kinda interested to know if more people prefer something abstract on their screens. Now that I see my original thought was correct, here's mine.

Of course, I have another favorite background that I'm not disclosing, 'cause It's gonna show up in here soon enough if I can ever get unlazy/unblocked. It's not very abstract at all

I just collect music... and now SNES ROM's. My desktop is fairly ordinary as is my desk, but the cool thing is the background image that I used to have on my desktop. It's the teal grid pattern available here.

Somewhere on skinmaster.co.uk there is a shot of my monitor.

On top of my monitor are my lego men. Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker etc.

Now the image isn't on or linked from a page. And I have forgotten the URL.

IF you can find it you win a prize.

HeeHee. What great fun, Mr Jones! I find the desk pictures far more fascinating than the desktops. Gotta rush home a take a pic of mine, but it'll be up soon (in the meantime -- imagine all Jonsey's figures replaced with Star Trek guys...)

As for my work desktop, LOL. It doesn't show much personality, but I will say I just recently updated it... inspired by our migrating Duk. Get the job done.

Mr Jones! Here I thought you had a certain sketch adorning your laptop? *tsk, tsk*

And StewartMilby... great way to enter the Skin Love forum. Whatever is your BlackandWhite image based on? It's got me intrigued...

OK, kiddos, new game to keep our sickly Mr J entertained: how many of the programs in Mr Jones' Quick Launch Toolbar can you name?

I gots some BIGGER pics taken by moi that 're similar to that one if ya ever decide you'd like a couple of Duk Snapshots, cappy.

And my modest desktop in my modest condo on my modest island is modestly here. Most modestly, of course.

I'll take a screen cap later ... damning evidence is up now.

Hmm. Now as I recall, Dax is a foot long slug-like sentient with lots of extra legs. You boys need some professional help. Badly.

The figures you can see are actually Data and Locutus (remember him? ) I'll admit the light is bouncing off his chrome kind off funny.

Now hold on there! Don't go including me in that! I don't know a Dax from a Data Locutus whatever. I watched TNG moderately, DS9 sparingly and Voyager almost never. BUT, I do know some purrty ladiez when I see em, yup I do!

Guilty by association. Are you implying that you are, in fact, not Right Hand Man or whatever of the Jones Cult? Are you denying the words of perhaps Skin Love's newest mod? Would you care to elaborate on the llama comment you made in another thread?

Sorry, son. It's looking like, when all us normal young boys were watching Leia in a leather bikini, you were fascinated by Jaba.

My boring desktop...

Wanted to add my contribution while someone has Duk subdued enough to pay attention. I don't have a digital camera or I'd post the real desktop. If the regular ol' camera is close to the end of the roll I'll snap one and scan it in later, if the thread is still breathing.

Not much to look at but I have had so many different backgrounds that I finally decided to go with one simple color.
Unless someone has any recommendations?

The background....

as well as cursors and icons I found at http://dotstudio.m78.com

There are also some very cool resources (icons, cursors, wallpaper) at http://www.etherbrian.com/, where I have downloaded copiously. I change backdrops fairly frequently...

Sorry MJ, no Opera theme of which I'm aware. I used Opera a while back, but had some compatability problems. Fast sucker when it worked, though. I take it the current incarnation is more solid?

Not devoted to IE, either, but liked the design, and don't really care one way or the other. I reserve my passions for something a little warmer than a browser. There is a Netscape version, and a non-specific one called "Future".

Matt, read HERE

And this....
Quote:
Spyware in BearShare

Now for the spyware problem. BearShare since version 2.0.0 installs something which is called the Onflow Media Player, which is basically a browser plug-in that displays "rich media" animated ads for you. What advantages does Onflow offer over Flash, which is pre-installed in most browsers? To quote Onflow's FAQ (March 02 2001, may have changed at the time you read this -- italic emphasis mine):

How is Onflow's technology better than Flash, Java, or streaming video?
Onflow's system was designed from the ground up specifically for advertising on the Web. Its breakthrough animated compositions are tightly integrated with the ability to target, track, and account for online ad campaigns. With Onflow, the same Player that renders your ad so fluidly in a browser also gathers data about the time, location and user behavior associated with each serve. The Onflow Player's user-side detection also supplies the most accurate available count of ads that actually play. Onflow's closed-loop authoring, ad serving and reporting system lets advertisers and agencies realize savings from shorter production, approval, and revision cycles. They create, approve, and publish ads in hours instead of days, and make changes to live campaigns in literally minutes.

So, you are being spied on, and this will improve your ad experience. BearShare creator Vinnie Falco explains in the discussion forums:

A lot of people have asked why I am doing this, and the reason is simple:
BearShare currently costs more money to distribute than it brings in (read: bandwidth). So this bundling is very necessary.

T3 lines can be extremely expensive ($17,000+ monthly) and with over 2 terabytes of transfer per month, I'm sure you will be understanding.

Vinnie now finds himself in a similar position like many software creators before him: defending something that doesn't deserve to be defended, namely the loathsome violation of users' privacy by companies like Onflow, Radiate or Conducent/Timesink.
That should do you for starters
