I've been having a problem with Winamp and CDs lately, tried upgrading to the latest version but it didn't help.

When I put in the CD, it takes forever for Winamp to load the list of tracks (whether it's getting it from the CDDB or locally). When I open the playlist window, it takes about three seconds for the first track's name to load, another three for the second, and so on. When that's done, I can scroll the window down, and it takes about three seconds to load the fifth's track's name, etcetera ad nauseum. Until it finishes loading the name of the last visible track, Winamp is hung (though the CD continues to play).

Any ideas on what could be causing this, or how to stop it?

Thanks in advance.

Try some of these suggestions:

1. Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Input -> CD Plugin -> config
Uncheck: "sample input from soundcard"

2. Prefs -> Options
Uncheck: Sort Files on load
Change: "Read Titles on..." to a different setting (Load/Display/Play)

3. Prefs -> Output
WaveOut Plugin -> config:
Increase: buffer length, priority & blocksizes

Still no joy?
Switch to using DirectSound Output instead of WaveOut
(also has similar tweakable settings in config)
