How is this done? I have seen several very nice skins that just completely eliminate the equalizer stuff to allow the image to be larger, along with eliminating other things like the volume and balance buttons... how?

The only way to remove the EQ bars totaly is to crop the bitmap image that contains them, in this case EQmain.bmp.
Simply slice the bars off the image leaving just the main eq window on the image. Basically winamp can only display what it's given in the bitmaps, so if you slice the bars off they vanish when winamp runs, you can also do this for vol/bal, simply crop the bottom of the bitmap off where the slider buttons are, same goes for the posbar, crop right hand edge and the slider vanishes. Quickest way to do this? open up your bitmap up in mspaint, grab a hold of the bottom edge of the EQmain.bmp window, drag it up so it eliminates the bars, stopping just short of the two title bar areas, save, re-zip your file, bingo it's done. Take a look at the extracted bitmaps from one of those bar less skins you have seen, compare it to a standard eq image for a skin with bars and the differnce will be immediately apparent. |
