OK so I've heard that you can stream live audio compressed to mp3 by using shoutcast as long as you have a live input source. Is this so? I didn't think it would work but I haven't tried yet.

SHOUTcast does create MP3's from an live audio source DEPENDING on your sound card. But it can also stream MP3s so that you can use your current collection of MP3s, BUT they must have been created with CDs you have. (I just have to add that legal clause).
