winamp causes lag in Starcraft...
Hi,
Winamp causes lag in Starcraft, the game pauses for like 1/3 of a second when I'm playing a song(both mp3 & wav, have not tested with other media files) in winamp. I have tried lots different winamp versions, 1.x and 2.x, but this problem still occurs... I have tried removing all winamp plugins except in_mp3 and out_wave from Nullsoft, but no cure... but what I did find out is that when I use the default skin, the lag was gone... here's my system specs: CPU: Celeron 366 Ram: 384 MB PC133 VC: used an Asus V3800 TNT 2 Pro 32 MB RAM, now ATi Radeon 32 DDR Color: tried both 16 bit & 32 bit. any help would be appriciated. Thanks! ShuShan |

your system isn't all that good, and both Starcraft and Winamp are processor intensive processes, you shouldn't be running both at the same time

my system was overclocked to 550mhz, but it's now running at 366mhz, it still lagged, when I use other mp3 players like ultraplayer, sonique and others, there are no lag at all.

Does it also happen when you use DirectSound Output? (instead of WaveOut)
You might also want to give this alternative output plugin a try: PP's experimental DirectSound Output btw, what's your soundcard, Windows OS, and DirectX version? Is "random skin on play" selected in Prefs -> Skins? (if so, uncheck it) Further tips: From: TSGH -> Useful Links Troubleshooter Guides: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....827#post275827 http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....166#post308166 |

I use waveout, sound card is SB Live Value, the OS is Windows 98se, Directx 8.0a, random skin is off, never had random skin on...
I did not have this lag in Starcraft long time ago(around April 2000) if I remembered correctly, I think around Oct. 2000 til now lag started, so I stopped using winamp when playing Starcraft, not sure what caused it... As soon as I noticed there was lag, I started trying out different versions of winamp, but that didn't fix the problem... Since I don't use winamp much before, I couldn't have known what caused this lag..., but could be that my system is getting old and bloated softwares these days... I am glad that Winamp is still nice n small as always. But anyhow, I'm upgrading my comp. soon, I'll let you know if this problem still exists afterwards... Thanks for your help! ShuShan |

YAY, the lag problem disappeared, I didn't do anything trying to fix it, but it's now gone.
