Should people rate their own skins?

I've just been looking at the number of skins where the publisher has rated it themselves with 5 stars, I can get over this, what are your thoughts?

I rated one of my own skins ages ago to counteract someone who'd rated it 0 with "Hmm" as the comment. But since then I've decided not to rate my own skins.
I'm gonna vote for "Hell yeah" though because Forever rates her own skins and I don't want to anger her !

The reason I feel that rating your own skin / submission is silly, is that I personally use them as a guage to public opinion and to imporve and to see what people like. I already know whether I like / hate it, so my own rating polluting the score is of no use to me.

My english teacher'd be proud. I've disagree and supported my argument

why are you sorry to me? I don't think I'm immature and if you're basing my maturity on the one simple fact that I rate my own skins, thats kinda ridiculous.

On the point that they're guaging a public opinion, if everyone rated their own skin, it would offset the default by one for everyone, not really affecting anything.

in an effort to support my argument, which I don't think I should but I will anywayz.. Reasons why I rate my skins: I forgot to add something to the comments section, I'm feeling particularly wordy, I feel a need to comment on the reviewers comments, the skin was rated too highly in my opinion and I know that fact in and of itself will draw attention to Mr Van Cleef and his (at least) 2 aliases to come and give me a zer0 star rating that I don't deserve. I have not rated all of my skins 5 stars, ask me for proof and I'll show it, and I have not rated all of my skins in the first place.

I voted no because, let's face it, you wouldn't give yourself a bad score on something you decided was good enough to release, would you? And giving yourself a good score simply for the sake of giving yourself a good score is quite gimpish imo and throws off the whole reason for a rating system in the first place...

I voted for yes coz it's no problem for me...but I have a problem with ppl who rate an author-self-rated skin with 0 stars and a comment like "don't rate your own skins"

Skinme! no worries y0, never ever ever take my rants seriously. I tend to go off on them without really supporting my side (intentionally). If I had posted what I said above in that same thread, I may have gotten a better response.

But I was set straight by someone pointing out to me the simple fact that, no one here has any control over the issues I deem worthy of fixing. If you certainly feel and know it deserved those 5 stars, then go nuts.

I agree and I think I have several skins I rated fairly with 4, 3, or less stars.

NOt that I can think of any skin I ever created deserving of less than 3 stars off the top of my head, but there might be one

however, there are times of bias. I don't necessarily run around rating all the skins in the most recent catagory, but if I happen to be there, and I happen to be in a good mood, and I think the artist made effort on their creation, then I might rate it a little more than normally. As a lot of you do I'm sure.
Therefore I can say that I have rated a few of my skins 5 stars that did not necessarily deserve them (i personally can't think of many that do). Regardless. The system is there, this thread changes nothing. I'm more than happy to see star ratings go but as long as I am able and so is MadDog (lets not pretend he's gone now), I'm going to give myself that one (assume arbitrary) 5 star rating on every skin I feel like giving on to.

I know one way to change the system which would be an immediate improvement: Ban your sorry ass from ever publishing again on this site and remove all your skins, which BTW are mostly all if not all made with the help of some skinner.exe program. This would go for you and anybody else who has uprated his skins to the degree you have done. Don't you come in here and lecture us on how the system is wrong, because you are the example to all others of how it should not be done.

It seems that I've opened a can of worms on this one. My personal feeling on the matter is not to rate you're own skin.

In reality...does it matter...how many of you download a skin simply cause it has a 5 star rating.
Personaly I look at the screenshot and decide from there, the only reason I rate the skins of others is if I have something to say about it, I don't expect people to download the skin just because I gave it a 5. Just like art...skinning is a very personal thing, we all know that...all I wanted to do is get an idea of others thoughts on the matter.
Anyway...I'm starting to go all deep & meaningful on the subject.

Anyway...Hooray for the Sinn Fain telling the IRA to decommision their weapons, and killing Bin will do nothing for anti-terriosm, all it will do is increase Bush's popularity with viewers of CNN.

Thats my 2 cents.
