Screen capture
I would like MilkDrop clips as my desktop. Can I have a screen capture key within the plugin so I can get lots of pretty pics? Great plugin!

Six years in the future... I am wanting this feature, and searching the forums and help, and not finding it. Does this feature exist?

you can use a program call fraps to make movies and take screen captures from MD, or any other directx application.
plus if you want it on your desktop, you could use desktop mode that puts active md on your desktop, although winamp must be open Blah! |

Astonishing application. It seems to know where visual output is being done through an application and simply grabs it.
All the same, I'd far prefer having this capability for MilkDrop from within it, no need to install another application (and that application doesn't grap output with winamp paused), and bluntly, it seems like a very obvious feature (though I certainly wouldn't know how to add it myself). Still - thanks And I'm happily grabbing cool stills from this cool visualization plugin.

You can. Just make sure you don't have it set to fake fullscreen mode and take screen captures using the Print Screen button on your keyboard. Then the image will end up on your clipboard and you can save it using your favorite photo-editing software. You can even use mspaint if you want

It's surprising how often a helper regards a request as if the asker could never have thought of simple, if perhaps frowned upon or less convenient solutions. After all, it couldn't be known ahead whether someone joining a request for a screen capture feature hasn't already been using Print Screen, or beyond that even set a Photoshop batch to run through a directory of saved print screens and automatically crop and save them to the desired size (assuming this is necessary because they can't just have a visualizer occupy their entire screen while working at their computer). So why regard those cumbersome steps and the primitive mspaint, or even the more advanced Photoshop, or other external programs as the only available options, when it is, after all, entirely possible and plausible to suppose a simple frame capture feature could be built in?

its not built in.
fraps works great, ya dont even need admin access to install it(except for videos) afaik milkdrop could never take a capture while paused either, i'm pretty sure it stops running when winamp is paused. Blah! |

To be painfully technical, of course it isn't built in - that's why it's a feature request.
Thanks for indulging the question. I may post a link in a milkdrop forum if (more likely when) I have captures of milkdrop incorporated into my blog banner, randomly rotating
