How to equalize MP3 and SAVE back to MP3
Hi!
I want to open an existing MP3 file, apply some equalization to it (process it) and save the equalized file back to MP3. This is very different from using winamp built-in default equalizer and winamp's database of settings. In my case the resulting MP3 sound different from the MP3 I started with even if I keep winamp's EQ settings to zero. There must a winamp plug-in that can do that. I don't want to use large programs such as SoundForge or WaveLab. Thanks! Nemo |

That is a dumb idea. There are DSP plug-ins that will equalize an MP3, but saving it back to MP3 is dumb. Whenever you re-encode a MP3 file (or any other loseley compressed file for that matter) there is more quality loss.
In short, re-encoding is dumb. |

I know that! Here's another formulation
How can I permanently embed equalizer settings in an MP3 file so that they are conserved when I play this file on different players?
I don't want to, say, add some bass to the same MP3 track 5 times just because I have 5 different portable players. Nemo |

You know what's really dumb?
1) that MP3 players don't use parametric equalizers (PEQs) instead of graphic ones;
2) that MP3 files cannot simply embed PEQ filters settings (frequencies plus Q and gain values) in their header tag. That would take at most 30 bytes for a 5-band PEQ or 60 bytes for 5-bands per channel version. Nemo |
