Winamp and W2K (SP2)
I'm having problems installing Winamp on my Dell Optiplex:
Pentium III, 800MHz, 256MB RAM, On-board Intel 815 Video Chip, On-board SoundMAX Integrated Audio. I can't mouse over the Winamp application AT ALL without my computer completely crashing. I've uninstalled and re-installed the full version in every combination possible and I've tested the sound card and activeX controls (they all seem to check out okay). I changed OS's a few months ago, and tried to install it with no luck, but I've HAD IT with Windows Media Player (even though it runs), and miss my Winamp!!! I've seen some posts about problems with W2K, but most of the others seem to at least be able to hear something from Winamp. ANY help will be greatly appreciated. Until then, I'm just SOL because I'm not going back to Media Player, and Sonique just doesn't cut the mustard once you've tasted Winamp. Best, SuperFlySmack |

Since you already performed a full uninstall and reinstall of Winamp, I seriously believe it must be driver issue. Furthermore, both sound- and videosupport of your computer are on-board
. On-board solutions tend to cause problems, especially under Windows 2000 .Win2k + on-board sound & video = crap .Update your drivers. Also update DirectX to v8.0a, if not already done .Since you also can't move the mousepointer over Winamp's main window at all (are you serious about that? ), it's most likely the videochip and / or driver. Try obtaining an update. What does happen exactly when you hover the pointer over Winamp? Does it really crash? If, does Winamp print out an error message? Peace. |
