More Genres!

Hi,

i think, we should add some more genres to the winamp ID3v1 and the ID3v2 tag, because it will be more easily to describe the file
more quickly.

I would recommend to add these and more genres:

Epoches (renaissance, barock, classic, romantic)
Twelve Tone Music
Atonal
Bossa Nova
Modern Music

Nullosft does NOT control the ID3 standard, they CANNOT go adding gengres whenever they feel like. In the ID3v2 field you can type in whatever

The current genre classification system sucks. There are already too many overlapping genres, genres which most people have never heard of, and new genres appearing, which makes it a state of confusion.

Even the members at id3.org recognize this problem. By adding more genres you only make the situation worse.

That's simply wrong!

Because there are certainly enough genres for
adding them to the genre list.

If you're uncertain about the genre, just type in
or choose what you're thinkin' about that song,
and it's better to choose a specific and correct genre,
than to left out that field, because there are not
enough and specific genres.

And you don't must take, what you don't want to take.
Is it too difficult to understand?

The high actual standard must even reach the same high standard on describing the songs.

I'm not saying you shouldn't add any more genres to the genre list, but that it should be restructured in a hierarchal way, so that the major genres are at the top of the tree, and the less known specialist genres are classified under that. e.g. Epoches would be classified under Classical. This way we the genre list could be considerably shortened and more sense made of the genre system as more genres are added.

*cough* Nullosft _did_ add a bunch of genres to the id3 standard in the early Winamp days
Check the old 'what's new' logs on Winamp.com or Winampheaven

But adding more genres now is useless, it simply wouldn't be be compatible with the truckloads of other players out there...
Back in the day Winamp was almost on it's own (well not really, but anyway mp3 wasn't as width spread)...

Like Sawg said, ID3v2 is what you need... Winamp supports it. You can type what you want...
