The little eject button
Ok, first off let me appologive for posting this, i am not sure if someone else has already asked this question or if it is even a bug, but i cant find an answer to it anywhere. when i open winamp and i click on the little eject looking button next to the player controls and i select the folder that i want to open and look through winamp freezes. example: click button, little window opens, i select C drive, program files, limewire, and then the shared folder. when i click on the shared folder to open it and veiw my files it just freezes and wont show any files. this problem just occured the other day. have had winamp for about a year and i love it, but i cant seem to fix this problem. i have no plugins or any of that stuff and even have reinstalled it a few times. HELP!!

Hmm . . . weird
![]() So, you're using all the default input plugins? (no replacements like in_mp3pro) Are all the files in this folder MP3's, or are there any other formats? Are there any shortcuts in the folder? (LNK files, linking to other folders) Are there any files with long filenames, or any which include any irregular characters? (eg. an excess of full-stops/periods) |

nope, no plugins and the folder has multiple formats like jpgs, mpgs, and wav files, iget kinda confused between mp3 and wav but i didnt have a problem before, it would open and only show the music files, kinda like filtering them out which was cool since i didnt care about anything but music. the file names vary in length and some of them have characters but nothing extream, mostley just ( - _ . but nothing like back slashes or stuff like that. by the way here i my system info p3 500mhz

So, there's definitely no shortcut files in there, eg. LNK files leading to other folders, etc?
What extensions are in there exactly? eg. Any EXE or ZIP files? You might have to do a bit of experimenting, but more than likely it could be just one problem file causing all the trouble. eg. In Explorer, try moving all non music files into a new sub folder. It could be the MPG files to blame, though maybe not ?!?! Particularly look at all the new files you've placed in that folder since the problem started. It could even be a slightly corrupted MP3 to blame ?!?! As an alternative, you could just use Explorer and drag the files from the folder into the playlist, but this is just a workaround and you shouldn't have to do this (Open Files Dialog should work ok) I wish I could help you more, but, errmm . . . I can't think of much else at the mo. Also, check to see if you can properly access any other folders with music files in via Open Files Dialog (eg. C:\Windows\Media) btw, how can you get confused between MP3 & WAV ? One's got .MP3 at the end, the other's got .WAV at the end . . . unless you've got windows set to "hide extensions for known filetypes" (Folder Options -> View tab) [edit] Cheers for the sys specs. Everything looks ok there. Just to make sure . . . what version of Winamp are you using? Is it the latest 2.78c, and have you installed the WA2update? Further info on WA2update here |

ok i will divide some of the files and pull out the videos and see if that works. i have been running a very recent version of winamp and when i had the problem i came back and got the new one and still had the prob. all of my other folders and directories open fine and play. every once in a while i can get the problem folder to open and play but once it starts playing it freezes but keeps playing the song. if i open the problem folder and select all files or music files it opens fine even shows pic and vid files. problem only happens when it is set to "all supported files"
i will fiddle with it a bit more. my whole confusion with mp3's and wav files has to do with making cds and storage. i get the jist of it just the technical details that i am fuzzy on, i am halfway smart. oh yeah! there are no zip or exe files and no links in the folder all though i did download an exe file but remove it and put it somewhere else before i used winamp again. just fired up winamp and all is going good now that i removed the other formats, so good so far! DJ EGG RULES!!!!!!!!! |
