Anybody else having "windchimes" with 1.8.3?
I upgraded to DSP 1.8.3 and found it to be more stable than the previous version. However, I have had persistent audio quality problems with it.
The audio is there, and it is fine, but way up in the frequency spectrum is a whine that changes pitch (think of a wind chime, but higher). I thought it might be noise from a monitor, but no...monitor off, but when listening on another computer I can still hear it. Then I tried a different computer...same problem. Then I backed up to an earlier DSP and the noise is gone. My guess is that it has to do with the way the new one uses the sound card instead of Winamp -- but having found it in two different computers does confuse the issue a bit. For now, I have backed up to 1.8.0, which used Winamp instead of the sound card for input and the windchimes are gone. Any help with this would be appreciated, as I do have occasional lockups with this version...which doesn't work for a 24/7 stream! --Scott |

I am back to 1.5.0B1
I am back to 1.5.0B1 -- a version that uses Winamp instead of the Soundcard. When I run it, the "chimes" (or maybe better "high pitched cross talk") is not heard.
Sadly, this version sometimes goes off to never never land for me. But I was losing listners because of the chimes. So I am going to just keep an eye on it for the time being. And maybe look for an alternative to the whole winamp/shoutcast approach. Thanks for the reply. --Scott |
