New Sound Card
ok,i ordered a Voyetra Santa Cruz Turtle Beach SC with my computer this last summer, and as soon as i bought XP,every time a sound plays,i get this telephone ringish sound...it is very frustrating. so i downloaded every single driver for it on the internet and still no luck. however,i do get temporary relief...whenever i open AIM and the little sound plays when you sign on,it actually plays it...then i open winamp and start playing the songs on my playlist...but i don`t change the songs myself,i let it change automatically as it goes down...because if i change it myself the telephone ring sound kicks in and i have to sign on to AIM again to get it to work. i`ve been doing this for the past 2 months and it`s starting to get irritating...i know my sound card will play the sounds because it does when i start AIM,but thats just stupid...it should play all the sounds. so unless any of you guys have any idea what is wrong,i will definitely be getting a new SC. i`m looking into a Yamaha AP-U70 External Receiver because i don`t really want to fool around with the inside of my computer, but i want incredible sound...i already have Altec Lansing ADA-885 Speakers,THX Certified...but i`m just not getting the full experience from them... give me your thoughts on what i should do...
1)Try and fix my current POS soundcard 2)Get the Yamaha thing, which is extremely pricey 3)Get an internal SC,if its not that hard to hook it up (etc:if i can hook up a cd burner,is this too much harder?) please rant and rave all you want on this... [EDIT]Forgot the URL: Yamaha AP-U70 [/EDIT] |

I use the European version of this card (Sonic Fury) and it's suberb for something under £60, never a single problem ever on 98SE. Could be they haven't got the drivers sorted for XP yet. I suppose you've tried a re install. According to www.vieologic.com the latest install version is V5.12.4112 and must be used with XP.***
Did it ever work, e.g. before you installed AIM or whatever, are there any driver conflicts. Know nothing about AIM so can't really comment, sorry I can't help more. (edit) *** You may be able to get a new installation disc for free if you email TB (/edit) UJ |

Make sure to update to the latest Santa Cruz drivers for WinXP. If you need more help, try asking it here.
http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/cgi-bin/...&Board=Forum13 Discussion on products based on the Cirrus Logics CS4630 and CS4624 chips. The CS4630 currently is in the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, VideoLogic SonicFury and Hercules Game Theater XP. The CS4624 is in products such as the Terratec DMX X-Fire 1024 and the Hoontech SoundTrack I-Phone Digital CS. |

Funny to know that AOL's IM is actually fixing something. heh
Your speakers kick ass because I own the same ones. Altec Lansing (in my opinion) is the very best choice for quality vs price. Don't recommend Creative products unless it's to be funny. Their driver support is horrible. They still have "known DMA issues" for their Live cards in NT-based environments. bah, that's unacceptable. The Turtle Beach line is the way to go.. yum. My friend has the Santa Cruz card and he is using XP without any problems. It sounds to me like you've run into a bit of bad luck. Try this: Remove the drivers. Boot into safe mode (hold f5 on startup) and remove all the audio components from the Device Manager. Reboot your pc and install the latest drivers. Good luck! all work and no play makes jack a dull boy |

everything started to go haywire (related to sound that is.) AIM is not the problem,i assure you, because that is the only thing that makes it work, somewhat. Quote:

Still sounds like the drivers to me.
Did you check the link that Wish gave? the file there is only 3 days old. Have you tried Direct Sound output? UJ |

Microsoft never recommends this procedure. You should *always* do a clean install of every OS you use. Quote:

If your friend is stuck in safe mode, then something is wrong with his computer. Something was wrong before he booted into safe mode. He probably did something to make it worse.
Just follow spanky's directions and don't play with anything else while you are in safe mode. It shouldn't hurt your computer. You should really consider backing all of your data up and then doing a clean install. Upgrades from one OS to another generally cause problems.
