that was a very good idea in its origin.. pitty..

Resurrected Stalin's idea to form a story weaved out of different posts was in fact real good. It could've been really interesting if the guys here took it a bit seriously. Was kindaf mental, imaginational and intellectual exercise. A missed chance

That was hardly an original idea. It been done several other times here. It's been done several million times across the Internet.

It never works well, for several reasons.

Word Association = Infamous thread from a while back. Basically, over 30 or 40 pages of one word replies; a post pumpers dream.

The story thread always seemed to be attacking one or more particular members at any point as well so was essentially one long flame war.

Jeopardy -> Overrated

Or, how about a Q&A thread?

bingo. I luved it. only that to make it more consistent, shouldn't we narrow the range of topics to a certain limit so it gets.. hum.. in a way more .. well I don't know .. the point so it won't diversify in a meaningless way?

Overrated -> Underappreciated

Perhaps we should simply require that if you wish to participate, you must also have some sort of meaningful comment in the post. This, the actual word game becomes more of a sidenote, rather than the main attraction.

hum.. Im not sure if this is what I meant exactly.. but let's take an example. limiting the thread to one topic, will make us cover the topic in a more comprehensive way and go deeper in every detail, without loosing diversity which will spring from the different issues relating to this same topic.

Oh. I was actually talking about the word association game. It was referred to as a post pumper's dream. It's a pumper's nightmare to be required to make meaningful posts, so requiring such would make the thread useful as well as fun.

I prefer making meaningful, sensible, or dare i say it, mature, posts because it conveys a lot more about a real person that a quick, one line reply, although there are times when one liners are perfect.

I generally try to put enough into a post that it is worth reading, but not so much that I have to find a soapbox first.

I treat posting like a conversation, generally. I try to refrain from posting things such as "you are right", "you are wrong", etc., but sometimes, I have nothing additional to add, yet I feel it necessary to at least say something.

Of course, sometimes, i just want to have fun or polite, and a "welcome" is acceptable to me. Or, if something is exceptionally funny, I may make a post for the sole sake of sharing my laughter, though I try to keep that a rare occurrence.

As for one liners . . . Yes, they are sometimes perfect. Sometimes they have more force when embedded in a post, though, where they are unexpected. Of course, then they might become "zingers".

Actually, that's just one image repeated 12 times, though I could have actually created a new composite image. I just didn't see much gain in that.

The theory is, you should never have two posts in a row. If you have something else to add, edit the message you've already posted and insert it there.

Edit: See. I just added this with an edit.

Edit again: You should generally denote which parts of the message were added during the edit, just in case someone seees the original one before you edit it. That way they don't think they are crazy. It also helps clarify discrepancies between a message and a quote of that message if you make a note that it was editted.

well the exact idea was to have that 'hum' alone, and then comment it as an outsider of that post (since we've been talking about one liners..) As in other cases, I completely get your idea, and do it when needed.
