Winamp doesn't use Windows codecs. Winamp has its on plugins. Look in the plugins directory. They are all right there. (including out_wave.dll)
Yes, you can add other plugins. You can even write your own if you get adventurous. For the freedom to express myself in my own way without fear of being censored or banned.47 65 6C 61 65 64 2E 63 6F 6D 00 |

Most confusing ?!?!
![]() out_wave.dll is the default Nullsoft WaveOut plugin used for normal playback. It doesn't do file conversions. It just plays them. I suppose you're getting confused with Nullsoft DiskWriter plugin (out_disk.dll) This is the output plugin you'd use for converting MP3 to WAV. For everyone's information, the latest out_disk is a newer version of PP's ACM DiskWriter plugin. In other words, you can use it in conjunction with any ACM codec installed on your system. The default codec/format is PCM Wave (%SystemDir%/MSADP32.ACM) The default setting/attributes for this codec is PCM 44.1KHz, 16-bit, stereo. This is required for CD Quality WAV's to burn to Audio CD. But you can change this (by clicking the "..." button at the side) to any other attribute, eg. 44.1, 16-bit, mono -or- 24KHz, 8-bit, stereo - etc. Or you can change the codec/format to any other ACM Codec in your system dir, eg. Fraunhofer MP3 Codec (L3CODECA.ACM or L3CODECP.ACM), or even the DivX Audio Codec, etc. But as sawg says, for encoding to MP3, you're best using PP's plugin, with LameEnc. (As far as I know, there is no ACM version of Lame Codec) But I hope you're not thinking of re-encoding MP3 to MP3 ?!?! ![]() But then again, at the end of the day, you're much better off using a dedicated Ripper/Converter such as CDex or EAC, and just use Winamp as your player instead.
