In Italy, ride a bike or ride the train to Rome and back.
When driving a Classic Mopar, be sure to run over as many Geo/Chevrolet Metros as possible.

I've got a Renault Twingo for the time being (I spend most of my time driving around London, so need something small and fast).
I'm saving up for a big 70s Merc at the moment, so I can drive fast on the motorway. |

Thanks Merlin!
I do try to keep the old girl up. These hills invite me to fly sometimes and she's set up to go fast when it's steep and twisty. Mark Martin is a local boy, seems only fitting that his number should be on the front of the Ozark Howler (you really should hear it work from a distance late at night!) Here's a little better pic. Hiya DJ Roach!
It's a T-Bird, a little "special" but you probably noticed the airdam (small animal deflector) and stuff being a little different. It has a 5.8 litre turbo charged mill which has been massaged a bit. The suspension has been modified (all round) and it has been subframed so it rides a little stiff, but can hang when things get tight. The brakes also had to be modified because up here a big part of going fast is being able to get it slowed down for the next curve, if ya miss ya hit a rock wall most places, or fly out into space for a nice little drop of several hundred feet down the side of the mountain...unless the trees catch you. The car also plays a role in the game I'm building, it's one of the transportation choices in "Drunk Driving for Kids". "Nothing really matters much to me"-Freddie Mercury |

YO GRIFFIN!
Yep, people still take the train. A friend just rode Amtrak back from California, she said it SUCKED! Said the food was bad and expensive, the attendants were rude, and the passengers had to be put on a bus at one point due to a de-rail. When I was a kid I hopped frieghts a few times, it was a beautiful way to see the country then, but probably too dangerous today. "Nothing really matters much to me"-Freddie Mercury |

i drove one of the 2.3liter Super Coupes a few times, you know the one with the turbo charged pinto engine
(the same engine in the two wing euro escort the MERKUR) they actually get on it pretty good for a four banger. of course the one i drove had a huge turbo, that gave 15lbs of boost 3" exhaust a little over carbureted but after the initial 2000rpm the turbo lag stops and it drops you in your seat. i think the guy spent around $4500 just on the engine.waste for a four cylinder if you ask me. |

Hahaha...yeah, good old turbo-lag....push the accelerator, wait just a bit then...WHIZZZZOOOOOMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't get much lag from my setup but I usualy don't run but about 12 pounds of boost, with all the engine I have (and the body is mostly fiberglass) I just don't need a high boost setting. The 5.8 has been balanced and blueprinted the block was decked & destroked, and the heads have been worked (ported, polished, and relieved with monster intake and exhaust valves) it's running blower pistons, and a gear driven roller cam, I'd tell you what I have in the engine dollar wise but you'd think I was an idiot, let's just say I coulda put a couple of kids through college instead. I've had some screaming 4 bangers though, including a Cosworth Vega which had a Paxton supercharger on it, it worked great till the pistons melted. I've still got that Paxton somewhere, maybe I'll put it on my lawnmower LOL. I can't drive 55. "Nothing really matters much to me"-Freddie Mercury |

I drive. Ford Feista. I don't care for cars but i'm lazy. I used to like walking, then I got a car.
If i'm away from home i'd use a bus or train for long distance. |

You Americans can afford to run huge-engined cars like that.As for your friend on Amtrak, they've clearly never taken a Arriva Trains North-Western or Connex South Central train (UK). If your train turns up at all, there's a 68% chance it'll late. 40% chance of it being more than 15 mins late. When you get on the 40-year-old (some are approaching 50) carriages, if you can find a seat that is a)Clean b)steady and c)not next to some obnoxious fat bloke, then you're very lucky. [/rant] I know of a guy who extracted 600bhp from a 2-litre 4-cylinder Vauxhall (General Motors) engine. The car surrounding it was an Opel Corsa - Take a look at it. It's the first on the page. That's one killer looking Vauxhall man!
Yeah, we have cheap fuel most of the time. Right now a gallon of premium is $1.12 in my area, regular is $1.07. I push my fuel costs up a bit with octane boosters and top cylinder lubricants, but it's still cheap compared to what the rest of the world pays. I had a 1959 Vauxhall estate wagon when I was a kid, the old 4 banger quit, but I put a chevrolet 283 cubic inch engine and a 4 speed tranny in it. People thought it was a chopped and channeled 57 chevy station wagon. I still think the MGA roadsters are the finest automobiles ever built though, the first car I ever drove that cornered hard enough to bruise my ribs was an MGA coupe. My mother's first husband had an MGA - one of the originals, wire-spoke wheels, chrome fuel cap and all that. Agreed - it's a very nice car.
[e]Premium costs 80p per litre. I've had this discussion before, and I think it worked out at about $4 extra per gallon over here. Damn tax![/edit] |

*** I got a speeding ticket the other night when I was on my way to pick up Kassie. Damn highway patrol... He said I was doing 86 in a 55 zone. I knew I was going a little fast, but not that fast. Oh well, now I've gotta cough up $143 to pay it off.

WHOA!!!!
Nice machinery there PaPaDoc! Sorry to hear about you guys getting slammed on the high speed hyjinX. I've recieved two VERBAL WARNINGS for speeds in excess of 100mph, but both were on the highway late at night/early in the morning, nobody out there but me and the cop. I sold my Z28 to the cop who gave me the first warning. Second cop was an older guy and knew I was not endangering the public so he just acted all stern, then wanted to look under the hood, which sort of blew his stern routine. I haven't always gotten off lightly. I was classified as a habitual offender of speed laws when I was younger, primarily because I was/am a street racer, but then I lived in a major metropolitan area. No jail time, but I had an "occupational only" license for a while. "Nothing really matters much to me"-Freddie Mercury |

Me and my little sister share a 1991 Mazda 626 DX, which she takes most of the time. Yeah, it's demeaning. Other than that, I walk to places around town. I live less than a mile from the SEPTA train station, so that's a good option to go into the city. Amtrak to Baltimore, DC, and the South. New Jersey Transit trains to New York City. Trolleys into West Philly. That's about it. I don't like busses... having to sit through traffic when you're not the driver really annoys me. So I avoid them.
