Line-In :(

You the regulars among these forums will know this weekend I was away in a club - projector in hand - ready to unleash the unknowing public and to open a few more eyes to MD.

Now after an initial scare with the s-video lead not working properly for my card. Things were underway. Now I was using the line in commands from the MD documentation. Now I am noticing that there is a small delay from when the sound happens to what MD should be showing.

SO the whole night it was not as good as I have seen MilkDrop. So I was disappointed.

Has anyone else noticed this or should I go back and recheck my config?

Is it a fault with winamp and/or MD and/or my machine?

what soundcard are you using?

I know that genuine Creative cards (maybe some others, as well), have a section in the recording properties dialog called "What U Hear". I've found that this is more responsive.

Also, was your computer providing the source for the actual speakers, or were you just an extra component in the audio system? It might be that there's a delay when things go into your computer, but if you were outputting the sound yourself, you might get better results. Of course, if you were going to be doing this, you'd want a REALLY high quality soundcard (probably a Roland of some description), and a crash-free system.

Beyond this, I don't really know how to help. Possibly contact your soundcard manufacturer, and whinge to them that their line in recording driver is too slow =P

Cheers Krash but also it is the Winamp part of it I have been to

ANd found some good line-in stuff. esp. low-latency waveOut output plugin. This link is worth checking if you use line-in.

BUt I will look in more detail at the sound card(s) (I could be using a number of the different PC's).
