im in ******* a lot, and i am alternating terragen and cursors. i am listining to the 'm's in my mp3's . these are radiohead, ratm, ram science, rancid, RHCP, REM, regurgitator, resin dogs, rob d, robert miles, roland clark, run DMC, i think thats it. thats 150 some odd mp3s ooh, all of my 'r' s are fast and upbeat- nice.
the point to staying up late is to see how long i can last. also, i think i am going to try out a new sleep pattern. i want to wake up on a morning, stay up that whole day, night, the following day, and then sleep for 12 hours. this is kindof a test run. |

Several people keep mentioning hallucinations and such. That really depends on the person. Some people will start to hallucinate after a few days, some are just really sleepy.

its rather difficult to stay awake more than 48 hours without very actively keeping yourself awake. you will have to be VERY VERY ACTIVELY trying to stay awake... even loud music alone will stop working.
However, short 15 minute naps every few hours would be extremely beneficial and allow you to stay up with no normal sleep for a lot longer. i've experienced such extremes in a a few types of situations, and the main negative side effect i get (besides being sleepy of course) is that my jaw starts to hurt very much.. for some reason i think i subconsciously start to bite down when that tired. |

I sincerely wish you luck
Hope you make it. I once made a thing like that -- I was up about 60 hours... I slept over a day afterwards (about 24,5 hours). Well, I actually sleep about 15-17 hours under normal conditions (If nobody bothers me while sleeping
)Well, I'm going to bed now. Have fun on what you will do. |

Well, I suppose the upside is that you can get a lot done.
After a few more hours the results of your work might start to go downhill, though.

There was an event I believe took place in the fifties- a Radio DJ did forced sleep deprivation- there was a hot story in the news about sleep deprivation being used as a communist torture technique i believe it was, and captured US soldiers were coerced to leak info without even knowing it.
He started to become paranoid and thne started to hallucinate after a week of deprivation- afterwards he literally became an easily suggestible "zombie." Where do you live? If you try a week experiment I want to ask you a few questions... PIN numbers... passwords and the like ![]()

naw, im not going for a week! that would kill me. you can kill someone by sleep deprivation, even though i dont think it is exactly known why you need it. your body systems start shutting down, and youu slip into a coma and your breathing stops and you become a vegetable or die :P i dont know how long that takes, hough. it is a little past 5:15 am, so that makes 38+ hours. i just watched braveheart and i always cry at the end
i dont know why, not many movies make me cry. cool runnings did, though. that jamaican bobsled movie. ok, well, i am going to watch the monty python dvd now (yay) 'brother maynard, bring forth the holy hand grenade' 'pie iesu domine, dona eis requiem. >>SMACK<<' and when the black night launches his sword through the guy's head. classic. 'theres some good filth over here' 'on second thought, lets not go to camelot, tis a silly place' '1, 2, 5!' '3 sir.' 'there are some who call me tim' 'with a herring!' 'no shrubbers. no, no shrubbers here' 'well i didnt vote for you' ok, well im off to watch the movie cheerio gov. |

Physical tiredness for example is the build up of lactic acid, a by product of energy production. If this is not flushed out of the system then bodily functions can't operate properly. This is accomplished during sleep. As far as the brain is concerned the toxins involved are the neuro transmitters(serotonin I think). Too much serotonin and the synapses fire at innapropriate times. Overloading the brain with serotonin is the classic route taken by halucinogenic drugs. Again this is cleaned out during sleep. I often view dreams as your brain taking a good dump. So drink plenty of water, and lay off any artificial aids. ![]() Please be careful with yourself. UJ |

if your really bored, go into a good text editor (one that has no filesize limit, so Notepad won't work).
Get your dictionary and type every single word followed by a return. Then send that file to me. I was making a word prosessing program a long time ago, but that was the only way I could figure out how to do a spell checker. That will take forever and keep you occupied. | |

place your bets on who passes out first!
I for one passed out last night while drunk. more to the fact that i had a power cut, and couldnt finish watching my film than being drunk. |

Ya, I've done about 26 hours before, but in March, I'm gonna try for 48hours.
Why would you put yourselves through so much physical stress though?

n_ick, why not just write the spell checker so that it assumes that every word can have "s" or "es" or "ed" etc. tacked onto the end? It would be a lot simpler. If you can get your hands on some books in text form (a lot of books have a text form on CD now), just write a program that will parse the entire book and create a word list, sans duplicates? Do this with a few books, and you'll have a pretty good-sized word list. I expect that it will be fairly close to correct, with only a few typos. Acceptible, if you as me.

Go here for a huge database of ebooks. They have a bunch of books that uses words you likely won't find in most other places.
You will likely need to also get txt2pdf by SanFace if you don't own Adobe Acrobat so that you will be able to create text file that your program will be able to read (all the ebooks on Alex are only downloadable in PDF form). Also, you can try this. |
