How To Play AVS On Desktop Background

Hi everybody,

I'm newbies here Today I go to One Computer Center at my place. When I arrived there, I get wonder on how they making AVS play in desktop background without full screen mode. Wow, it's great features.. When I went home, I try to configure my winamp to be like that, and I have searched certain questions/answers in FAQ and this forum, but I didn't get my answer

Currently, I'm using old computer that running Windows95 with pentium MMX 166Mhz. It's possible for me to run AVS in desktop background or else? Anyone can help me here..

166 MhZ? OUCH... No money? I must say, I'll take the fact that you're in SouthEast Asia into the problem - I'm from there, and loading a city from SimCity 3000 took me a long, long time.

But now I'm in America w/o as much games (none of them are brought over) =( but better speed and HD space! =)

Anyways...


1. Load Winamp
2. Get AVS startin'
3. Doubleclick the window for the config
4. Select "Settings", then "Display"
5. Check "Overlay mode" and "Set Desktop to color"
6. Look at your desktop. Should visualize it.
7. If nothing gets groovy (happened to me) :
7a. Right click on the wallpaper
7b. Click properties
7c. Select the Wallpaper tab
7d. Set the wallpaper to none.
7e. Apply.

The Overlay mode have about the same speed as AVS - but the AVS window still exists, and you have to minimize winamp to see your whole desktop gettin' groovy.

Wow, it is working on my Win Xp computer that use pentium 4 with 256 ddr ram but unfortunately, it doesn't work for my old computer (pentium mmx 166). Anyway, thanks for your reply Nic01. Hum, I realize there is a bug or something else when playing AVS. It can't be run if we set our desktop resolution display to 1024x600 and above.. Then, I tried to set my resolution to 800x600 and it works.. Wow, very wonderful AVS features..

I have played with winamp and AVS on many computers, and I have found that some correctly display the visualization on the desktop... and others don't (some cannot even run the standard fullscreen mode, and it has nothing to do with the processor). I believe it has to do with the drivers for the display adapter (video card) and how windows displays things (specifically, the desktop). It's possible the driver for your monitor is incorrect, but I suspect you'd notice many more problems than just AVS not displaying to the destktop.

I suggest looking for an updated driver for your video card; but, if it's just a generic/old card, I doubt you will be able to get it to work.

1024xsomething resolution works for me for overlay... but right above it (1152x somthing) doesn't work for me...

What screen size you use? (in inches)
