Winamp 2.79 last version before 3.0?

Is Winamp 2.79 the last version before Winamp 3.0 Final released?

2.8 probably. WA 3 final will be a few years off, so they'll probably reach wa2.99

So why bother to release the Beta version so early on??

They're not done with Winamp 2.7x. They're still gonna work with Winamp 2.7x once Winamp3 is finished in the developer's stages, the only projects the programmers will have are updates, and patches to fix little things. There's a big road still there for Winamp2.7x, they won't discontinue Winamp2.x once Winamp3 is finally released.

So that people have a chance to test and help with bugfixing it!

It will go final when

a. it's stable, and
b. it has all the functionality of WA3

so, they will release wa3 final when it has the functionality of wa3...something doesn't add up right.
