Real Player

Why can't I play real player content through other media, Winamp and Nomad Jukeboxes?

Please help. I heard that you can convert, for lack of a better word, .RA and .RM file to MP3. Is this true?

I am no expert on this, but I think the format (.ra,.ram) is patented or copyrighted (whichever). The owners of Real Player have a lock on it. I believe it is illegal to write software that will convert these files, so don`t think you will find any. Therefore this type file is rather limited and not very good for quality music files, You can play .ra files with Windows Media Player. I suggest you download music in mp3 format.
Somebody correct me if I`m wrong on this.

Go to Google and search for "dBpowerAMP Music Converter" (I don`t remember the URL). You will find a complete explanation of this.

Until I discovered Radio1 streaming in ogg format,
(which is not up right now)
I recorded the Essential Mix every Saturday night/Sunday morning
(which is broadcast in ra)
and encoded it on the fly to 128Kb/s 44.1 Joint Stereo MP3.
There is software that will encode ra.
But...maybe one day people will wake up to the quality of ogg vorbis,
and send ra to the garbage dump forever.

you're completely right... of course that doesn't stop people trying... a program probably exists, but i wouldn't know where to get it.

also, however, a way around it is to play the file, and record the output from your soundcard (some cards can record themselves to file, but not many, so you might have to connect a tape/minidisc/other computer to the output) then convert this to mp3... my friend did this in order to record a free song that the guy had mistakenly encoded to .ra onto a CD...

Thanks for all your Info. But I have about 20 tracks that can only be found in Real Audio format, and these track are one of a kind. Legendary, Grammy award winning DJs from Chicago (Frankie Knuckles). A friend of mind found the plug-in after we recieved WINAMP, about six months ago. But he blew out his hard drive, and we was wandering if any one who remembered the the topic could help us in the direction of the REAL Audio - MP3 converter.

The pic of the real audio logo getting hosed is cool.

Ok, not everything that Microsoft makes is bad. Sure, they may have some unfair business practices, but you don't get into the position that they're in without making something good. When tweaked, win 2k and XP are quite excellent.

And please stop using $ when writing Microsoft, and don't call it "satansoft." That's gayer than #*******.

Just because it's "cool" to do something, doesn't mean it's actually cool.

Who cares about real plyer files?? I just want these sites that require real player to run, to accept Windows Media Player instead so you can save the shit that you are listening to if its a live briadcast over the net. I wonders if Windows Media Player and Winamp 3 can do that!?

I agree jarsonic, MicroSoft deserves some of the lumps they get, but they are an asset in many more ways than they are a liability. If you stop and think about it, it`s amazing all this shit works as good as it does.

That sir, is the best thing you've ever said. Take note of it. 'Hanging out' in your 'secret' channel full of elite wannabe's does not make you cool. So stop acting like you are.

He'll call it what he wants. You pretending to be elite and nullsoft's best friend is 'gay', yet i don't see you stopping anytime soon.

#******* hardly needs defending, but glad you think it's gay cause neither you or any of the beta kiddies are welcome there. (Not by me anyway)

If I understand what Shorty Mac and Inatlantis
are requesting correctly, here's how I record and encode
live radio braodcasts streamed in the ra format:
(Some may do it differently)

I have the Tara Plug-in installed in Winamp.

I use Total Recorder with
the Lame Win32 DLL version Lame 3.91 DLL encoder installed in TR.

(Total Recorder has a one time $11.95 registration fee,
but this gives you unlimited recording time, and free updates
and upgrades. Total Recorder lets you configure the lame encoder
to whatever bitrate and quality you want)

With this setup, I record live broadcasts streamed in ra,
using Winamp as the player, and TR as the recorder/encoder.
This is on the fly encoding.
The file is saved as mp3 at the bitrate you set to record with.

Matt, chill. My ******* comment was a joke. I'm sorry I said it, it wasn't sincere.

And when I said that "Just because it's "cool" to do something, doesn't mean it's actually cool," I wasn't inferring that I think that I'm cool. I was simply stating the fact that doing something just because everyone else is doing it doesn't make it actually cool (in this case, spelling Microsoft 'Micro$oft'). That's all.

I don't think that I'm in tight with anybody. I'm sorry if any of what I said has been misconstrued to mean something else.

No problems Jarsonic, just wanting you to visit the channel before you give opinion of the place, rather than take one from certain other people
