VISA's misleading avertising
Has anyone else seen the new visa comercials?? the ones that're "when sorry isn't enough?"
either way.. about 2yrs ago VISA ran a series of comercials about using your card in an emergency (one of them was about a huy who gets stuck on an island somewhere and uses his VISA to pay for a helocopter ride home.. but it was only shown in theatres).. anyhow, my family has a VISA card we all have signing authority on that's only to be used in emergencies. Today i got stuck driving 1/2way around the f**ing city to go to where i needed to go instead of the 2min i'd intended on (it's a long story) and when i was still a good 20min from home the gas gauge was showing EMPTY, so i pulled into the nearest gasstation.. and realizing i'd left all my cash and my debit card at home (my license lives in my organizer in my pocket) i grabed the VISA out of the glovebox. Well.. i ended up having to call home and wait at the gasstation for 2hrs while my parents came to come pay for the gas in cash form. VISA refused the $25 purchanse on a card with a $35,000 limit because it hadn't been used regularly for the past 4months Whats the point in keeping a card for emergencies if you can't use it only for emergencies?? |

Visa and Mastercard are as close to being the same company as you can get without going through a merger. I'd suggest going with a Discover card or American Express.

not true.. i've dealt with both on behalf of the comapny i used to work for... they're at frequin' oposite ends of the spectrum on their policies on what happens when the card is stolen and a merchant processes the card
that and i've used mastercards that haven't seen activity in more then a year for large (6-20 thousand dollar) purchases without problem... |

That is just wrong
I only have a debit card for the simple reason that with it I can't spend money I don't have. |

Sure you can. With the outrages service charges in this country, it's possible to run up a debt with debit card. I don't know about England though.

You can always go back to the old way, take alot of cash with you!
I am just a normal person sitting on the bench and reading newspaper and having a cup of coffee. Why can't people see that? |

I only use my credit card when out and about (except when I'm in a pub, where they don't accept them).
The reason is very simple. Petrol is expensive, and I use lots of it. I'm hardly going to drive around with a few hundred quid in my pocket to spend on fuel, particularly in London ![]() I also don't have a debit card because mistakes are not very easy to rectify when you're money's already gone... Like if your debit card is double swiped, or cloned you can kiss goodbye to the money in your bank account. If, on the other hand a similar thing happens to your credit card the credit card company picks up the tab and it tries sort out the problem. |
