Winamp License

Hi,

I start developing an DJ Software (Database,Crossfading, PlaylistS etc.).
I thinking about to provide the Software, for private use it would be free.
But for commercial use I want to sell my Software (Think about The Price of 30Euro). So, for private use I do not attack the Winamp license, but when I sell it, the Winamp license prevent me from this.
Is there a way to purchase Winamp?
My Software requirement's will say, that Winamp must be installed on the System an my Setup will not distribute Winamp, only Check if installed, so if the User do not install Winamp himself my Software would work.
At the moment the only Libary/Player I found was Winamp.
All other free an comercial Audio-Library's/Player's have some Functions left I needing. I not want to program an Player! I want to program an kind of frontend for PlayerS.

The only thing wrong with doing this...is:
  • If anything screws up they can't update their winamp
  • Without internet they can't get any tech support from us(they will annoy you)
you might be best to just link them to our site and say that they NEED internet access to download winamp and such

If your interested in updating/contributing to winamp's tech support greatest hits forum
Please start a thread in winamp's discussion forum with what you would like to see along with your update for review

You're right, I have the problem that the people need Internet access. But really, I do not think there are many people who will use my software in an commercial case. But if the will be someone, I not like to get troubles with the Winamp license. At the Moment I developing an second interface to an other Audio-Library, but the Library has much less Functions than Winamp. So, then the user can play music, but nothing more. For more, he need to install Winamp.
So I understand you right it's ok to sell Software and tell the user, to install Winamp (with link to winamp.com) ?

You could just sell the software as a Winamp plugin, kinda like DFX ( http://www.fxsound.com/ )

Plenty of other systems do things like this.

For example, winamp requires you to have a Microsoft Windows operating system. You just list winamp as a requirement of your software.

I do exactly the same thing with shoutcASP (http://shoutcASP.co.uk)

I am selling software that offers extended functionality to bolt onto winamp for internet radio stations.

No-one has a problem with that, I've even shown the system to Tag, Justin, Steve, Brennan etc. It's fine to do this.
