What's the difference...

Between Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional?

And give me a good reason not to get Linux and some Windows emulator for it.

SirK (very annoyed with Windows at the moment)

With Pro you get better toys....
Home edition sucks....

That is all I know.....

I am just a normal person sitting on the bench and reading newspaper and having a cup of coffee. Why can't people see that?

unless your setting it up on a network in a professional way....then home edition will probably do exactly the same thing

why not dual boot linux and windows?

ok, I'll give you a reason not to do linux/wine.

You just can't be a gamer like that. If all you do is Word Processing/E-Mail/Software development, you don't need wine, especially if you're not doing the software development part. If you write software for windows, and you can make it work perfectly in wine, you have written a great piece of software.

Now, I agree, that somewhere down the line, linux will be a stable environment for everyone, but it isn't yet. There are too many factions.

And On that day, the Lords of the land said unto their Master Architect, "The temple you have made to the gods of Wasabi and Maki has brought us no great prosperity" and they sent out him into the lands.

As he traveled to a far off land, he found he wasn't traveling alone, but that he had gained companions, and when they found their new land, they started work on a new temple, one that would be OPEN to all who wanted to worship.

XP Pro also has better security and user privaledges. Everyone is an admin in XP Home.

There's no file encryption in Home. (Although all it does in Pro is turn the filenames green anyway )

There's no need to tell me when I'm right;
I operate on that principle exclusively and with absolute certainty

The games and stuff are worthless to a lot of people, but a lot of other people like them. Remote desktop is absolutely pimp. It's implemented far better than PCAnywhere, and people pay a load o cash for that program. I love the remote desktop. I did prefer the Win2000 search, though.

Atmo, you are right. I was misinformed. I was told that the users were all admins, but apparently not. The user account system in WinXP Home is simply more limited than that of WinXP Pro.

I use the admin account on the net (when I'm at home). I see no reason not to.
