If the U.S. Copyright Office sets a rational royalty rate for webcasters, then the potential for webcasting to succeed as a medium is quite real.

Although this is a noble cause...
it's already been done here in two other places.
For those who are new to the forums and don't know,
it's ok...
but for the rest of us who've already signed the petition...
it's old news.

Sorry, wasn't sure if it had been posted here, or if anyone knew about it. I had just found out about it yesterday. So, sorry to annoy anyone with old news. BTW: I plan on staying on these forums, and Im not just some spammer.

No problem jcgreen.
Welcome to the forums.
This is a very serious matter, and like I said,
we've already jumped on the anti-RIAA/CARP bandwagon here.

One thing I've learned recently though, that others may not know...
if the RIAA/CARP get their way later this month,
it will not only effect privately owned stations, like Shoutcast,
but it will shut down on-line broadcasts by established am/fm stations.
They already pay a royalties fee for the music they play on am/fm.
They can't afford to pay additional fees, retroactive, for the same
to be broadcast online.
This plan doubles their fee in addition to the retroactive fee.

Also it will shut down ALL non-profit stations that simulcast,
like Public Broadcasting, Christian, and College run stations,
because since they are non-profit,
they would never be able to pay those fees.
Proof of this can be found here,
in a well written statement from our local Christian Station.

And if you need a face to put with the destruction of online broadcasting,
here she is: Hilary B. Rosen, President/CEO, RIAA.

This IS the devil in disguise!!!
