Nah, this is nothing to worry about. What you should be worrying about is how Bill Gates has put a little program in your computer that monitors your actions, sending a list of them monthly (those monthly windows updates) to a big compilation computer, which he in turns sends to the FBI, who takes the top 100 people who download more illegal programs/files than anyone else in the world, arrests them, and then moves down the list until Bill Gates says, "ok, that's enough, the rest of them consume more of my products than they steal from the music/movie association." THAT's what you should be worried about!

From an accounting perspective, what Microsoft is doing to its earnings is permissible, though frowned upon. When MS has a bad year, that should be reflected in their financials, not bolstered into an average year because of profit reserves. And when they have an outstanding year, that should be reflected too.

That's a load of speculative crap. It would have reached the media if people were being arrested for crap like that. The data transfer would have been found by one of the more security-conscious freaks.

That whole rant of yours is crap. I don't know if you made it up or if someone spoonfed it to you, but the chances of it being true are somewhere around zero.

Possible, but I'd imagine that most of their liquid assets are in US banks, where they can get it quickly in a pinch.

Now, if I were Bill Gates, I would have a large chuck of my own personal cash pile stocked away somewhere overseas. The US govn't can really screw you if it decides it wants to freeze your assets. I'd make sure it couldn't affect me too greatly.

Exactly. But if most of his cash is in off-shore accounts, does the US have the right to cease trasactions?

And I thought Microsoft was well planned out financially.

I don't know, the MPA (Movie Pictures Association) could have gone to the FBI and said "hey, look what kids can do with DIVX! Save us FBI!" and so the FBI goes to Microsoft and says "Hey, people are using your product for illegal purposes!" and Microsoft goes, "Ok, we'll take care of that for you, but u gotta make sure u don't take all of our customers!" I know that using those quotes makes me sound like a kid, but more or less . . . it's not 0% proabability damn it, don't totally dismiss it, i don't mind if you disagree, but never dismiss these kinds of possibilities, I mean, it's not TOTALLY impossible.

As long as you're not reselling the stuff, then its not 100% illegal.

It's not 100% impossible that 3 inch tall purple aliens are in control of the MPAA, but it's pretty damned close, so it's not worth wasting the time speculating.

The US can't freeze his off-shore assets, if that's what you mean. If it's in another country, in is out of the U.S.'s jurisdiction. It's possible that the foreign country's government my help, but I wouldn't bet on it.

If he has a numbered account in Switzerland, then the US couldn't freeze his assets even if Switzerland were willing to cooperate. Those accounts are anonymous.
