Good Soundcards

Ok, here's how it goes:
I had Windows XP on my old pc till I kinda cracked the motherboard and got a new pc virtually. Now my music slows down and goes all funny whenever I listen to music on WMP and Winamp. so..

Im considering getting a new card. Im looking for quality of music as it is the main thing I use my pc for.

I don't know alot about soundcards so i was wondering if you could reccomend a good one to me (bearing in mind i wont be using it for 5.1, just for 4.1)

Thanks in advance

Ty Winamprocker
Im thinking of getting an Audigy - Creative people. Ive heard alot
of good stuff about them. Why are they not good? Is there a noticeable difference between 16 and 24bit cards?

the only thing preventing me at the moment from getting a new sound card are:

1) lack of funds

2) I need a fairly cheap soundcard tat has both optical out and SPDIF out.

No, don't get an SB Audigy . . . you'll regret it!
Audigy specific issues

Creative Labs cards seem to work ok on Win9x systems, but their Win2k/XP drivers suck . . . fact!

As Winamprocker said . . .
Hercules (Guillemot) cards are pretty cool
GameTheater XP, Fortissimo II, Muse XL
www.hercules.com

More cards listed here:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=57617

eg. Turtle Beach Santa Cruz (aka: Videologic Sonic Fury - in Europe), nVidia Nforce APU, Philips Acoustic Edge, Terratec DMX Xfire 1024, M-Audio Delta 1010

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz is a really nice card. I would pick that over a Creative Labs one. Creative is only better than onboard sound usually.
