Need help with a skin

Hey,
I am creating my first skin with MS Paint. I am redoing the base skin, and I got the Main and Equalizer down. But the Playlist is givin me some problems though. Colors are coming out all wierd. For example: Red comes out a bronze type color like the way the base skin color looks. Somebody told me the base skin is only 8-bit, and i should try to change it to 24 bit. How do I do this?
