Moving my computer ~ Help and suggestions needed Please.
Hi all!
I am so sorry I have not been around lately. Lots of life changes going on at the moment. I want you all to know that I really really miss you and cant wait for the next few months to be over so I can get settled. I have been staying with friends in NY and came back to GA to pack up my stuff. The boys and I are moving to NY tomorrow. Here is the point to this post: I am packing up my computers. I packed the monitor really good and secure with bubble wrap, tissue paper ect..... My question is about the tower. Do I have to do anything special to pack it up? I plan on putting tons of bubble wrap around it, but is there anything else that I need to know about packing up the tower? The computer will be stored in the box at my ex-husbands place for about a month or two. Should I put air vents in the box? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Big Huge Hugs and kisses to everyone! ~ Missy |

If you use bubblewrap, then a layer or two of tissue between the bubblewrap and any paintwork/plastic is a very good idea.
Bubbble is made with very high levels of plasticiser in its manufacture and there is a chance it will react with some surfaces if left in storage for any length of time. Don't worry too much if it will only be a few weeks. Never use bubblewrap on bare polished wood, you'll end up with white dots all over it. The tissue will also act as a moisture buffer and prevent possible condensation marks. Depends where things are stored, but vents might provide an attractive home for passing insects. Good luck with the move. UJ |

If you ever look at the packaging that you have when you order things from Amazon, you will see that they use special sacks full of air which seems like a better alternative to bubble wrap.
Of course, Missy has already packed up probably but its a thought for future moving things around. It will be great to see you back again Missy

Thanks ujay on the tip about the wood. I have a few pieces of furniture that I was going to pack in bubble wrap, but have decided to just wrap them in old blankets! I appreciate that!
I am all excited to move to be near my friends and family again! I love it here in Georgia, but with everyone so far away it has been a difficult 4 years for me here. The 2,000 mile drive once a month is taking its toll on myself, the boys and my car also. The house I was going to buy fell through. The lady would not come down to my price. I have decided to rent a place for a year and that will give me the time to look around to buy a nice house for us. I am moving back into the country and am so excited about that. I love nature and woods. I am looking at 2 houses right now to rent. I know the owners of the houses and they are decent people that take care of their properties. One is a 4 bedroom house with a indoor hotub. It is on 2 acres of land. The other is a 3 bedroom house <one of the bedrooms is a huge loft>. It has a fireplace and is on 6 acres of land. The move to New York is going to require me to travel a little more with my job, but my ex husband said he will help out with the boys if I need. <I dont know what he is up to, he actually offered to help me >I am picking up the uhaul in a few hours and a couple of my neighbors husbands is going to help me load the truck up. They are only charging me a couple of cases of beer to help out! I told them I will buy them whatever kind of beer they want, but they cant drink it until the uhaul is packed! Here is a cool pic I wanted to share with you. I was in my friends driveway last week and a deer came right up to the car. The pic came out kind of fuzzy as it was foggy out. It was so awesome. The deer just came right up to the car and was looking at us for about 5 minutes. Have a great day all! ~ Missy |

rm,
6 acres of land is not much up there. My best friends family owns 26 acres of land and my friend lives "next door" and owns 45 acres of land. It is all country and woods and really peaceful. I will take some pictures and post them soon for you all to see. It is so beautiful sitting up on the mountian looking down on the hills and woods and listening to the birds and nature. It is so relaxing. ~ Missy |

missy, gather all the old shoeboxes you can find. get out the silica gel dessicant packets and throw them into the box when you pack. this'll keep it nice and dry inside the box.
missyob made me post this. |

I put a small container of a "damp rid" type material in the computer boxes. It absorbes moisture ~ I think this should help as my ex-husbands house can get damp at times (He lives on the shore of a river).
I am donating this computer to a poor family with 5 children that get decent grades in school. Their father got hurt and can not work anymore and their mother has to stay home and take care of him full time. They are living on 1000.00 per month. These kids can use this computer more than I can and I have the boys computer still anyway. I found the family through a church. The children are so excited. I met with them a few weeks ago and you should have seen the look on their faces. It was like I was a goddess. It brought such an overwhelming good feeling to my heart that it brought tears to my eyes. I am going to bring it over to their house tomorrow. Have an awesome day everyone! ~ Missy ps I am also getting a laptop soon so I will be able to visit the forums when on the road! Yipee! |

Hi again!
Well, I made it to New York safe and sound. It looks like I did a good job packing everything ~ It does not look like anything is broken. It is all in a storage unit right now until I find the right place to live. I am off back down to GA later in the week to work there for a week then off to St. Louis to work. The summer seems to be my busy travel time. The boys are at their dads for a month, so I am going to have some adult time. Big Hugs to all! ~ Missy |
