Digital Anarchy

Again, I have another problem. I am running WinMe (yeah, i know it sucks) and just recently my resource level/memory level is going down really fast. I Have 256MB of RAM, but just surfing the net really wears the system out. And I'm so fucking tired of it. I have to restart every 5 minutes. I can hardly even listen to tunes in Winamp without an error or sound problems.

Please help with this, and what about that CD ripper post? I need a 320kbps Mp3 encoding CD ripper.

Windows ME has a real bad problem with memory leak.

Get MaxMem from AnalogX to control that.

Works great, and it's free.

Install either Windows 2000 or Windows XP. 98 is an upgrade compared to ME.

I tried it out, but it seems to make the problem worse for me. I have a Win98 Upgrade CD somewhere, but I lost it. It'll turn up eventually. (I hope)

No you don't. 256 CBR is enough for everyone. Proven CD quality if you use LAME or the Fraunhofer codec. Personally, I'd suggest LAME VBR, but if you must use CBR, then 256 is enough.

You might also want to look into OGG Vorbis.

To fix the mem leak, I'd suggest that you find a way to get some other OS. Buy, steal, borrow, whatever. Short of that, a clean reinstall should help. ME shouldn't be having as many problems as you are describing.
