That's awesome. I would have taken the clamp with me though so the city would have to buy a new one.

Not a good idea. This way you can't get prosecuted for theft...

Least in this particular case, you can always say "Blimey! I was wondering where I left that wheel!"

There was a case here in London a while back where someone bought a clamp from Halfords or somewhere and found a clamper van in London and clamped it.

I was most amused. On cheaper models it is also possible to dismantle the clamp with a socket set...

I saw a volunteer fireman cut one off his car with the 'jaws of life' one day. I live beside the harbour, and another day a guy who was fixing his boat ran the length of the docks chasing a clamper with a petrol-powered diamond tipped angle-grinder revved in his hands....

At the college where my brother studies, they only have one wheel clamp. He got the code for the key off the lock on the clamp, and then ordered a replacement key.

Thus whenever anyone got clamped, they just unlocked it

That sounds a bit like what happened at my uni last year. Someone scanned the passes for parking and sold them to students for $50. So this year the parkingnazi has a plam pilot on which she checks the licence plates.
