Use Java to controll Winamp?

Hi!

Does anyone know how to use a java application to control, and to communicate with, Winamp?

I dont think you can do that, cuz if you could, then you could access other windows API's and do some major damage

Sure you can. You just have to use JNI. Every Java VM has to interact with the underlying OS or you wouldn't have any functionality. So the APIs are fair game if you know how to use them.

I'm currently making a Java RMI application that allows control of Winamp on a remote machine. Kinda like WWWinamp, but with more features and functionality. I've encountered a few stumbling blocks, but have it working for the most part right now.

If you're still interested, I can help you out a bit more. Look here for help on JNI. You'll have to know something about C or VB to use it.

Hiya.

I posted something about this over at the Java programming and winamp thread. That thread also has an attachment with sample code for commanding Winamp from Java.

Yeah, sorry. Didn't notice the timestamp. I was working on JNI stuff and noticed there were a few unanswered questions on the boards regarding that integration. I just sent responses to them each in turn.

For what it's worth, I found this thread when searching for answers on your forums. Without an answer, the thread is useless to anyone needing information. It's not so much for the benefit of the individual originally seeking the answer, but more as an historical archive of information.

For the same reason, many newsgroup users answer their own questions in a thread. One might ask, "why bother?", until they stumble upon such a thread while searching for answers to the same question.

i can understand where you're coming from and the relevance of the information is good

it just gets a bit confusing at times with comments split over the space of a few years hence why we [mods] tend to prefer a new thread if necessary and then refer to the older one that way. not to worry this time
