CDDB is pissing me off..

Maybe there's a way to do this (maybe..), and maybe this has been answered in earlier posts (probably..) but here it goes anyway..

Playing mixed CDs in Winamp. Fine.
CDDB thing comes up, doesn't find a record (duh..)
Tell it to forget it, no use in submitting it, cause no one's gonna have this particular mix of songs (well, maybe 1 in a billion odds..).
Play part of a song.. skip ahead to the next..
It tries to query the CDDB database again..
and again..
and again..

It just doesn't get the message.. I don't WANT to submit this CD to CDDB!!

Don't want to disable CDDB totally, though.. useful for store-bought CDs..

Any ideas? Is there a way to tell CDDB "No, thank you, and don't ask about this CD again!!"??

If not, this would be a *good* feature to add to WA3..

Try upgrading to the CDReader plug-in and follow the instructions on the plug-ins website or its Readme file to disable Winamp's default CD plug-in. Once you have that done, open Winamp, press Ctrl+P, goto Plug-ins/Input, double-click CD Reader, goto the CDDB tab and configure how you want it.

CDDB

What exactly is CDDB? Do I need it to listen to CDs on Winamp? Most of mine I burned myself. How and where do I get rid of it if I don't need it? I am a newbie when it comes to messing with Winamp. It WAS fine until I (dumb) downloaded and installed "cda2wav" plug-in. Now my whole sound system in my puter is screwed up BIG TIME! Any answers would truly and greatly be appreciated!

cddb is a huge database of cd info so winamp or other programs can look up the CD's info and display track titles and stuff instead of track 1, track 2, ect. doesnt work on burned mixed CDs though, only store bought CDs (or burned copies of them in most cases)

To alacat74::
No, you do not need it to listen to CDs in Winamp. To turn it off with the default Winamp CD plug-in, open Winamp, press Ctrl+P, goto Plug-ins/Input, double-click Nullsoft CD/Linein plug-in, now look towards the second part of the windowed dialog and uncheck 'Use CDDB'. To get rid of the plug-in you may want to just go ahead and do a Full Uninstall->Reinstall .

CDDB and Input/Output

Thank YOU! I have music again! I don't suppose you could tell me what happened to the "tags" that
used to be attached to all the songs? Actually:
which input and which output settings need to be configured? And to what specifications? (I told you I am a newbie...) What will the full uninstall/reinstall do? I didn't click the link because I have already un/re-i Winamp about 4 times today. The CDDB answer was a great help tho. Thank you Lots and Lots!!!

CDDB and Input/Output and file songs

The CDs play just fine. Now the songs in my "Music" file are running too fast. They are not EVEN playing! Any idea which setting might fix this new problem? Thank you.

Tags for a song like an MP3 or a tag for a song on a CD?

Unless you really know what you are doing, then you can conifgure the input plug-ins. But it's not recommended. For the output, you can choose which one you want to use by selecting either Waveout or Directsound.

And to what specifications?
Well, that's totally up to you.

We all have to start out somewhere. And that somewhere is being a newbie.

It would of gotten rid of the 'cda2wav' plug-in that you said was meesing up your music or whatever.

You probably have Disk Writer plug-in on. Check out these threads.

CDDB & Input/Output

Thank you! Thank You! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!! Oh, did I remember to thank you for your GREAT help?!?!?! I am sooooo very happy to have Winamp working just as good as new. I don't usually mess with any of that tech stuff, but I was trying to find a way to get rid of that cda2wav plug-in, and thought I could do it in Preferences, hence messing everything up! The tags I referred to are the "ID3v" ones for file MP3s, I guess. They are here. They just don't come up for burned or bought CDs. I can live with THAT, tho! lol Thanks again for ALL your help! (I wish I had thought to come here for help yesterday...! I would have slept better last night.)
