Infinite Driver Loop?

I'm running the G-Force IV Ti. When running the newest geiss plug-in, I get the nv4 driver infinate loop error that causes my puter to crash. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Need more system specs. Otherwise we'd just be guessing.

If youre running WinXP, and a mobo with a via chipset, theres a bug somewhere that causes problems with nvidia cards sometimes.

Nobody is willing to take responsibility for this, theyre all blaming each other.

If youre running WinXP and an athlon processor, try downloading nvmax (do a google search), and using the winxp+athlon fix. It might help.

Running XP Home, not sure about the MB. I'm sure it's not athalon though. 500 P3. The exact name of the error is nv4_disp driver. I tried different modes 1024x & 800x / 16-32b. I'm thinking theres somethnig I have to change on the VC settings. The Nvidia logo shows up on the black screen with "press F1 for help", but the screen stays black and I get the screen of death. I wish I could tell you more. Thanks!

The nvidia logo shows?? Have you been messing around with the settings??

To get rid of the logo go into control panel, display, settings, advanced, choose the tab with the name of your video card, advanced settings, direct 3d settings, and untick 'display logo when running direct 3d applications'.

Are the rest of the settings default (IE: not overclocked etc.)?

It would be really helpful if you could give exact system specs, go to start, run, type in dxdiag and press enter. Hit the save all information button and attach the .txt file to a post.

Arrah good old Geiss I have not ran that for some time.

Also make sure you are running the latest version of 4.24c from www.geisswerks.com - I think the version on the winamp site is still out of date.

The geiss I'm referring to is the Milkdrop. I have the 1.03.

In that case moving to the MilkDrop forums. Have a search on those boards for known problems.

And post your debug file and the setting that you are running MD at.

Go to the milkdrop preferenes there is a box that says "Write debug into to C:\m_debug" Tick that then run milkdrop.

Check the top link for an article for a lot of info on causes and resolutions of the dreaded infinite loop error.

The very bad news is that there is no one cause of the error, and no one solution. Every case is different and diagnosis is extremely hard. Read the above article for things to try. On my old computer (Compaq, 512Mb RAM, XP Pro, Geforce 3 Ti200), I would get an infinite loop error, guaranteed, after only a few minutes. Any application that used 3D (Milkdrop, games, etc) was affected. The only cure was to drop down to only 128Mb of RAM. Then everything was rock stable, but XP didn't have enough memory to run well.
I still have no clue what caused it and why.

You may have a bad video card, or an insufficient power supply, or bad memory, or any one of a dozen other things.
