I'm assuming that 5.0 final is just around the corner, so I feel the urge to ask why rc8 was released...
"Why was rc8 released when 5.0 final is just around the corner?" ![]() Honestly though, I don't think the Winamp user base would collapse if they had to wait two more days or whatever until final is released. ![]() But anyways, I'm very impressed with Winamp 5. It's lived up to and far exceeded my expectations since development first started. ![]() |

Just checked out the changelog. Wow you guys have been busy!
I knew there were a few internal betas but this is silly. Only thing is I'm sad that I didn't get an earlier release hahahaha ![]() Hope you sweetened up the modern skin windowshade/normal bottom edge gluing like in the classic skins ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Seb ![]() |

great!!!
this update was awaited for a long, ![]() besides i realy like the agent stuff, and the rating, and the popup, and.... greaaaaaat! You have made a fantastic work ![]() however some things ![]() - It should be possible to write title display format while the help window is still on the screen - Is it possible to add the normal/fire/line style and thin/thick switch in the current modern skin ![]() - Is it possible to show the songticker on stantard skin, btw the globalhotkey should offer an option for redisplaying the songticker - The winamp symbol on bottom-right corner, couldt it be like WA, something like burning (and why not following the beat of the song) that's all, but i'm really happy with this one already ![]() Last edited by xebechene; 20th November 2003 at 01:54. |

Bravo
Bravo on another great release. I must say, I am impressed with the 'smart playlist' options, and I'm glad to have a rating system (even if some people don't like it), and I like having play counts. I have one small suggestion about the play counts however, make a song count when it gets to the -end- of a song, rather than when it starts up. Reason being, if a song pops up that I'm not in the mood to listen to, and I hit next, I'd rather it not increment the count, because I didn't actually listen to it.
Actually, I notice that playcounts don't actually update automatically in the library, but you have to switch off of audio to something else, then back, for it to update. Again, small nit. That aside, I'm eager to see what the full release will be like! I'm still doing comparisons between Winamp5 and iTunes, and deciding which I like better. Honestly, if someone came out with a plugin to access iTunes shares, I'd probably switch to Winamp5! |

I love the customize columns option in the media library.
edit: Also, you have to reload all the files to get the bitrate display to show up. One small problem...if I click on a file in the media library, right click, hit select all, nothing highlights until I change window focus...but everything is "highlighted" in the sense that they are all selected. Still going...maybe I'll compile a list of my favorite new features. For now in no specific order: 1. New file icons...love them. 2. XP Manifest..yay! 3. Song notification pop up...elegant. 4. Tray control plug-in. 5. Ratings... 6. Most played... 7. General media library greatness. |

One simple request: I run winamp on windowshade 100% of the time at the very top of my screen, and what i'd like is a taskbar similar property so that everything else is shifted down and it doesn't take up the very top part of my desktop. Is this feasable?
Oh and BTW certain fonts are still not showing up on the alternate list, even though you said you fixed them, Egg, you liar. It's not that big of a deal though. I like the bitmap fonts. |

@Dougieha: Did you try the easter egg used for the classic skins? I think it's the same one.
frankly, I find the fading kinda annoying |

+ wow, they managed to include the manifest file (so much effort for sure, but it was soo worth the outcome
![]() + ML is sooo great + Notificator is great + now the playlist can match the main window in vertical size when I turn off the menues in the default skin. + they magically solved the "buffer not reset problem" with crossfading ---------------------------------------------- - rrrrrrrr, lightning bolt still linked to "About" in WA 2 skins - sigh, they display the Pro registration entry in preferences even in the light distribution -arrgh, they display the cd ripping entry in preferences although no in_cdda plugin and no ripping/burning support is installed - still no "fade in" with crossfading - still skin colour (own WA3 Baseskin PL) and winshade issues (eg Fusion for WA3 PL) ----------------------------------------------- conclusion: a bit disappointed by the commercial touch that even the "lite" distribution has. I had prayed that they would release a commercial pro distribution that can be activated, and a standard and lite distribution without any reference to the whole commercial stuff. EDIT: before you have to teach me: - I know that most skins will have to be updated for winamp 5 - I know that the lightning bolt behaviour can be changed manually - I know that I can turn on fade in times manually eeeee eeeeeee eeeee eeeee eeeee 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 88 8eee8 8e 8 8 8eee8 8e 8 8 8 88 8 88 8 8 88 8 88 8 8 8 88 8 88 8 8 88 8 88 8 8eee8 Last edited by amano; 20th November 2003 at 03:10. |

Wow, 4 hours and this forum is a hot stop already.
I just got the new DL, but I have to ask. what does RC stand for? release candiate? [edit] I have just been playing with the new one, and GOD DAMNIT nulsoft you did it again! I must say that in my eyes you have made the wait truly worth it My only question is, What next? And are Upgrades, as opposed to Updates free if I buy winamp pro? ...Buy winamp! I never thought I would, but after this version, I think its a justifiable purchase. Why make something idiot proof?? Someone will only make a better idiot! |

One other small problem. Say I've got the media library open to a playlist (call it "Burn"). And say I've got the playlist editor open, and select a few songs there and right click and go send to Burn (the playlist open in the media library). The songs don't get enqueued. However, if I change to a different playlist besides the one I'm sending to, the tracks get enqueued ok.
Did that make sense? |

And btw, the new build is awesome. I love all the new features and fixes. Only bug I still see is that the fonts on the font replacement dialog still get messed up when I close and return to the dialog. They say a different font than what I chose and what it is using. -SailorH Last edited by SailorH; 20th November 2003 at 03:42. |

The Hover for the auto opacity needs some work too.... Unless this is unavoidable:
Even if there is a window infront of winamp, moving my mouse over the area wher winamp would be causes winamp to fade back to 100% opacity. Why make something idiot proof?? Someone will only make a better idiot! |

This kicks some serious arse, not least the competitions'! I'm liking the modern winshade with less options shown by default, and the ML and PL matching the width automatically (at least for small differences). And all the extra ML options... whoa, it's the dog's!

![]() Try again ![]() @WhiteRayven You only need to purchase Pro if you want full speed ripping & burning, including mp3 ripping. These are the features which Nullsoft needs to pay a licence for on a per-copy basis. Otherwise, all other features are 100% free. If you do purchase Pro, then (I assume) the licence will be valid for all 5.x updates (I can't say any more/further than that, because it's unknown... to me anyway). Note, there's also a 100% free Lite version - available NOW, and I assume there'll also eventually be a 100% free "Standard" version. Of course, you can pay for Pro, even it's just to show your appreciation to/support Nullsoft ![]() ![]() btw, have you tried playing with the Opacity / Hover settings in: Prefs > Modern Skins -> Alpha Blending ? @amano I assume those things will be fixed in the Lite version. Alas, I didn't personally test it, but I know others did. btw, probably a silly question, but was it a clean install of Lite? (ie. you didn't install it on top of Pro) |

Hrmm...ok. I'll try again.
Have the ML and PE open. Navigate to a playlist and select it in the ML, so you see the contents of the selected playlist. Now, select a song in the PE (or two, or three, etc.) and right click. Do "Send to:" and select the playlist that you are currently viewing in the ML. Note that the songs do not get added to the playlist in the ML, even if you refresh/move away and back. However, if you do "Send to:" to a different playlist in the ML, besides the one you are currently viewing, it works just fine. Better? |
